About this deal

And they fare very well after being dunked into a cuppa which of course is the real test! What’s not to love?

Optional) Put a small blob of jam (about ⅓ tsp) into the centre of each biscuit, spreading out slightly, so that any of the top biscuits with a cut out will appear to be filled with jam For allergens, including cereals containing gluten, see ingredients in bold. May also contain milk. Make the jam. Place the raspberries in a small, deep-sided pan and crush them with a potato masher. Add the sugar and bring the liquid to the boil over a low heat until the sugar dissolves. Then, increase the heat and boil for 4 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and pass the jam through a sieve into a heatproof bowl. Discard the seeds in the sieve. Leave the jam to cool, then chill it to set. For the complete list of ingredients and both regular and Thermomix instructions, please see the recipe card below. These custard creams are one of my household’s favourites biscuits. They are fun to make and a joy to eat. When my girls were very little they would always want to bake them with me in the school holidays.Keep the dough cold.I’ll say it again — the key to tall, fluffy biscuits is coldingredients. Don’t forget to chill the dough in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before baking. Using a blunt knife, pull it through the egg mix about 20 times, so that it starts to mix into the dry ingredients. Give the bowl a quarter turn and slash the knife another 20 times, then use your hands to gently bind the rest of the ingredients together into a ball Don’t Over-Whip – Or you may accidentally turn your cream into butter! 1-2 mins should be more than enough. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, the brand recently unveiled two controversial varieties: Choccie Dodgers and Cola Bottle flavour.

Arrange the biscuits with sides touching.Place the biscuits in the skillet so that they’re all touching their neighbors. This will help them “climb” in the oven so that you get that great, high rise. Finally, unlike the traditional store-bought version, I’ve used custard powder to put the flavour directly into the biscuit dough and not just the creamy centre. This is readily available in UK supermarkets, but if you’re elsewhere in the world and can’t get it, then I’ve heard that vanilla flavoured pudding mix is a reasonable substitute. And let’s not forget that sneaky addition of jam! What’s the difference between Custard Creams and Jammie Dodgers? Use digital scales to measure your ingredients – the cup system is less accurate and I never recommend it for baking recipes This kid-friendly recipe was greeted with much excitement in our house… all I can say is best make a double batch.Make the biscuits. Place the butter and caster sugar in a mixing bowl and beat well for 3–5 minutes, until pale and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla and beat again until thoroughly combined. Make Them Thinner– Bake in layers to stop them rising as much. Alternatively, bake as normal and gently pull or slice apart to make two pieces, then fill as normal.

Cut out all the biscuits in your shape of choice, then use the end of a piping nozzle or a small round cutter to remove the middle of half of the biscuits. Filling (29%) [Sugar, Vegetable Oils (Palm Oil, Palm Kernel Oil), 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 Starch, Flavouring, Emulsifier: Lecithins (𝐒𝐨𝐲𝐚)], Sugar, High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Cocoa Powder (4.5%), Glucose-fructose Syrup, Raising Agents: Ammonium Carbonates, Potassium Carbonates; Emulsifier: Lecithins (𝐒𝐨𝐲𝐚); Salt, Flavouring.

Bake for 15 minutes. Put the biscuits with a hole in to one side - these will be the tops of the biscuits in a moment. The main difference between these jam sandwich biscuits and classic Jammie Dodgers lies in the biscuit. Foxs version of dodgers is more similar to a Viennese Whirl shortcake rather than a very crisp biscuit. The result is a more melt-in-the-mouth texture and a cake like, tasty bite. The jam is also very tasty and together with the vanilla cream, is just the perfect amount filling. I prefer Foxs Jam n Cream Rings to Burtons Jammie Dodgers. It's more like an updated version of Jammie Dodgers. The crunchy shortcake biscuits are sandwiched together with sweet, vanilla creamy goodness and paired with a layer of tangy strawberry jam. This makes a perfect afternoon treat with a nice cup of tea. But, be careful! They will not last long as they are too good!
