Often, Persephone was a figure of mercy and kindness in these stories. The queen of the dead represented a more loving, maternal aspect of the Underworld than her more stern husband. Homeric Hymn to Demeter: This ancient Greek poem tells the story of Demeter’s search for her daughter Persephone and eventual reunion. It also includes the tale of Persephone’s abduction by Hades and her life in the underworld. The first book followed a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and this second book, A Court Of Mist And Fury follows more of a retelling of Persephone. So the writing of this book was fabulous, as usual. And the fact that Persephone loves how evil and mean he is towards her? I can't even explain how dark and twisted and SEXY this is. Exhibit B:

Since Persephone was born, she's been constantly warned by her mother, Demeter, to stay away from Hades. Demeter's been controlling her for 18 years but she's finally had enough and decides to run away from home. Little did Persephone know that she would land herself into trouble and end up having to sign her life away to Hades. She's been warned that he controls everything, that he's such an evil man, and he would kill her but she didn't even know what he looked like. The smut was fine??? It wasn't bad, but it was the only trait that Hades and Persephone had. They had a lot of sexual tension, but I didn't see the romance there so, this book goes to the "this shit has no romance" shelf. Hmmm.” He’s above me, beside me, everywhere. “I want you to cry. I want you to beg. I want to watch your face go red with the shame you’ll never be able to shake.”" The marriage of Hades and Persephone symbolized the relationship between life and death. In the ancient view of the world, the two were inseparable. Also, she feels love on her journey and creates many sad and happy moments. When you read about Hades and Persephone, you will face thousands of stories and various life. By inspiring this story, many books retell their journey. So let’s discuss the ten books about Hades and Persephone. 1. A Touch of Darkness Persephone is, nominally, the goddess of spring. If she was, as the story implies, born 20-some actual years ago, how has spring happened before her birth? Since she can't make her powers manifest, how does spring happen at all? Who gave her the title of "goddess of spring", if A) none of the other gods knew about her (as is implied) and B) she shows no gift for anything springtime-related? Luella wants to return to the human lands and wants nothing to do with this marriage. The elf king has to marry this human queen. They eventually develop a relationship, and they work together. The king is one-dimensional. But overall, it was a perfect story.

I loved Hecate, Thanatos, Hermes and Ares (even if I just got one poorly description of him). I WANT MORE OF MY KING ARES, ISTG I'LL RIOT. The other characters had no personality (Hades' personality was whisky and Persephone's was being horny) Anyway, Persephone buys into this reputation and often accuses him of this and worse, and Hades hardly ever stands up for himself. At worst he stays silent, and at best he'll say something along the lines of, "It's not like that," but doesn't follow up with an explanation. He allows Persephone to continue thinking ill of him, then gets irritated when she thinks ill of him. If he truly didn't care about anyone's opinion this would make sense, but he tells Persephone more than once that HER opinion matters. He just doesn't seem willing to do much to change it. Personaggi e ruoli sono stati mantenuti, ma la trasposizione moderna e le dinamiche completamente di fantasia lo rendono un retelling perfetto.

PLUS THE BONUS EPILOGUE IN THIS EDITION COMPLETES MY HEART. IT WAS PERFECTION. I definitely needed this after some shit other books have put me through. When a demigoddess has the power to change both your life and death, and the God of the Underworld wants revenge, it's a forbidden thing that's going to happen. As time progressed, the relationship between Persephone and Hades grew stronger. There are hundred plus books about Hades and Persephone retellings, and people love them to read any time. The myth of Hades and Persephone explores love, power dynamics, transformation, and the cycle of life and death. It invites contemplation and fosters a deeper understanding of ancient Greek culture, mythology, and the enduring power of mythological storytelling.

Lord of the Underworld, Hades, was renowned for his tendency to stay in his kingdom, minding his own business and ruling as he saw fit. On one of his rare excursions to the earth’s surface, he came across the maiden Persephone and fell immediately in love, determining that she would be his wife. Demeter was extremely devoted to her daughter and the two were constant companions. Persephone was known for her beauty and grace. Want to see Amelia live? Join her exclusive reader group! It sadly falls into the trap of many of the retellings I’ve read that feature these characters - the characters end up feeling a little flat. The Persephone character had the spunk and fire that I like seeing, but she almost seemed to purposely misunderstand things to add to the miscommunication plot line. The Hades here wasn’t my favorite since he was more of a bad boy and that’s not how I personally like my Hades. And the side characters, even some of the other gods, were one note. Hermes begins with an introduction to himself and some of the other gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece - Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo - and their home on Mount Olympus. Hermes - who has winged boots and a winged helmet - then files down to the Earth, where he watches offerings being made to the goddess Demeter, and that becomes the springboard for his first story... For three months of the year, however, Persephone returned to her husband’s realm. Demeter mourned and nothing would grow. The Goddess Test retells a funny story set in the modern day. The main character is Kate. She’s a caring, generous person. But she also has this no-nonsense attitude that makes her gritty. Her interactions with people are full of humor because she’s very awkward. Kate’s mother is dying of cancer.

It was actually relatable and the only genuine thing I could find about this book. But since it isn’t a large part of this book, their relationship didn’t make up for all the nonsense going on.

The Dark Wife - Sarah Diemer

According to Greek mythology, Persephone was the beautiful young daughter of Demeter, the goddess of grain. One of the most popular versions of the story claimed that Zeus was her father, although others did not name him. I would just like to say, first and foremost, that this is not a good book. If you’re looking for a well-written, romantic, meaningful story, this is not the book for you. But.... if you want a smutty trash book? Yes. A thousand times, yes. This is pretty much the equivalent to reading a modern au fanfic. Which, let’s be honest, we’ve all been in the mood to read at one point or another. I shake my head. I wish he would just do it. I wish he would take us to the other side of whatever this is. Maybe that’s crazy. Maybe it’s not something I should ever want, and it makes me just as bad as he is. But I’ve never killed anyone. I’ve only begged a killer to do depraved things to my body. I don’t know what that makes me, and right now, I don’t care. in my mind, this was an absolute masterpiece. A MASTERPIECE. i’ve never felt a more strong 5 star read than i have this one. i could feel it from the beginning and it wavered a bit throughout the middle but there was NO way i could give anything less than 5 stars. 🤭 In ancient Greece, a more settled culture with a stronger legal system meant that raids against one’s neighbor were less common than negotiations and trade. The custom of stealing a bride, however, remained.
