About this deal

Made from sturdy wood, and sporting a raised lip around its perimeter, it might be designed for puzzles but it has all the essential features for a solid gaming table. Plus, fold-down makes it portable – whether you’re taking it around a mate’s or shoving it behind the sofa. Handy. While other tables might include a sunken play area that can be covered for storage, the Prophecy cuts out the middleman with its hand-cranked lift mechanism. Play a game on the table’s flat surface, before lowering the central play area and covering it. Generally, these are features we’ve seen before on high-end gaming tables – but where the Megan’s magic really sets in for us is all the little extra details, and how beautifully they work together. With its bestselling Megan table, UK firm Geeknson aims straight down the middle between those two, and the result is something very impressive. Geeknson kindly sent us one to test, so we can go into a bit of detail here. Along the side is a slider that is moved into place once the halves are place together that can be tightened down to ensure all stays stable. There’s also a piece that slides into place to keep the halves together.

If you’re pressed for space, the Jasper‘s optional ‘table topper’ can be placed over the recess, transforming your gaming space into an ordinary dining room table at your convenience. The idea is for the table to double as your gaming station and dining area, saving space and faff. One of the things we love the most about the construction are the support beams underneath the table. Each half of the table has 3 supports. The first is the end rail. There’s another near the inside edge and the third support in the middle of each half. So when put together on a typical long folding table, there’s a total of 6 support beams. The support beams keep it nice and sturdy on any table. In some games we’d start with our cup holders next to us and then later move them to the end rails where they were still easy to reach, but gave us a bit more elbow room. Our typical table to play on is an old oval dining table in the basement. The Game Topper covers it nicely and gives us added space to boot. Being a rectangle on a square table is nice. The rails are where most players will engage with the game because they serve as arm rests while playing. They’re made of military grade aluminum with a powder coat finish. And they’re fantastic! The absolute best part of the Game Topper is that we totally feel like we’ve leveled-up our game experiences. BEFORE… AFTER!

First of all, I'm not an English Native, so I'm not sure what are the right words for what I want. Like a lot of people (not only in the board gaming community, but also a lot of people), I have an IKEA table. Specifically the Bjursta, big enough for 4 people, and 6 with extensions. I'd love if the table was just a little more wider for some board games (Scythe, Eclipse for example), but it still works, it just becomes a little cramped (84cm wide).

Each of the rails and support beams have a foam protection on the bottom so nothing scratches any table they’re placed on. We love the padding underneath. Having run a small gaming cafe, higher level gaming tables were something we'd been looking at for a long while. However, between building your own 'make-do' at the cost of materials and time, up to the flashy, all bells-and-whistles style options available at the top end of the market - there was nothing. A void. And so our small team of gamers/designers/great coffee makers/joiners started to plan, and plan they did! You can fill ‘em with tokens or dice, and slide them to wherever they’re needed. It sounds like a little thing, but, with the biggest board games, you’ll have tokens coming out of your ears; a convenient way to keep them organised and accessible, without obstructing the main play space, is a serious boon. I'd love to buy a dedicated gaming table, but I don't have enough room for it. The Bjursta is the perfect size for most of the time. And gaming table are expansive (it's justified, but still, can't really spend that much on a table). But since we are a lot in those case, I thought it would be easy to find a kinda topper for my table where it transforms it into a gaming table for the night, then I can just remove the topper and store it against the wall of my bedroom for example. But I couldn't find any. Your game will sit safe and sound until you’re reading to lift the lid, crank up the play area, and resume the game, right where you left off. It means you can play on a flat surface without having to awkwardly reach into the recess while being able to keep everything in one place when you’re done.

The outside edges are rounded which our resting arms appreciate. They also have an inside edge place for holding cards upright. We really appreciated this feature when playing the cooperative game Xenoshyft where we could set up cards that everyone could benefit from. The rails have a slot for holding cards. They’re super simple to place and slide around anywhere you want along any of the 4 sides. Cup holders can go anywhere and hold cups or water bottles. In fact, while on the folding table we leaned on the edge rails plenty and it never tipped even a bit. Even though the side rails hang over the edge of the table underneath, we didn’t have to be dainty. We could lean on them as much as we wanted without worry about any part of the game shifting. The rails are a nice arm rest as well. Minute to Teach - We aren’t exaggerating. You can learn these games in a minute. They play in about 20. Still, they have interesting decision spaces, beautiful components, and balanced rules. In addition to this red mat, there are other themed mats available such as the Adventure, Dungeon, Space, Castle, and more. The game mat is a great addition. So are the trays and cup holders. First of all, 6 players can sit around the table nicely and we even get extra room into the corners of the table. It gives each player plenty of space to place their items (cards, boards, dice, coins, etc.). Last week, I had a few friends over for games and the Game Topper was out and ready to go. It’s such a draw that whenever anyone entered we had to stop and talk about the topper. It didn’t matter if we were in the middle of a game.

The natural next step for everyone has been to touch it. They slide their hands along the rails, on the playing surface, and even underneath. The smooth feel everywhere goes hand in hand with the nice visuals. Fun for Everyone - Bigger games. Easy to play well your first time. After a few plays, you'll begin to realize there's more strategy than meets the eye. If you won’t be playing sprawling board games that cover vast areas, or are after a portable solution that can be set up and taken down in a jiffy, a foldingcard tableis a solid bet. Their smaller area will fit nicely in a tight spot, folding legs make them portable, and their flat, square surface means they can usefully function as a dining table if you’re looking to hit two birds with one stone. Most importantly, it’s sturdy, comfortable, and just as suitable for playing Magic: The Gathering as opening up a mid-size eurogame. Except this isn’t a normal table. Customisable cup holders, wine glass holders, interior wing shelves, and dark walnut or natural finish will make it stand out from your average piece of four-legged furniture. On the dining table, we don’t have to worry about any scratches. And on the folding table we don’t have to worry about any stability.
