About this deal

Adjustable diopter on the viewfinder like every other camera in the past 20 years; the old X-Pro1 needed fixed diopters — even for normal vision! Over the years, the company has introduced a new profile with each generation of camera. Classic Neg is the latest addition. According to Fujifilm, it is designed to emulate colour negative film used for everyday shots with rich chromatic contrast. The X-Pro3 also has the Eterna profile, which is designed for video and colour correction in post.

At 210 frames on the camera’s High Performance setting and 250 on the Standard option, you may need a spare battery. There’s an Economy setting that boosts this to 330 frames, although the drop in electronic viewfinder performance may discourage you from using this. Lab tests The X-Pro1 marked the birth of the Fujifilm interchangeable-lens series. I remember it quite well because from the start, it provided a unique user experience thanks to its hybrid viewfinder and retro style dials (the same concept as the X100 series that began one year earlier). Then came the X-Pro2 which, in addition to inaugurating the third-generation sensor and processor, also brought important upgrades in image quality and autofocus performance. Manufacturer description: The Fujifilm X-Pro2 is the long-awaited update to the X-Pro1 and offers a new 24.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III sensor and an 'advanced hybrid multi viewfinder' that can be an optical or electronic viewfinder, or a combination of the two. Its new image processor is 4x faster than that of its predecessor and offers a top ISO of 51,200. The autofocus system has been updated substantially, now offering 273 total AF points, of which 77 are phase detection (covering 40% of the frame), and much faster performance. Of course I set Dynamic Range, ISO and everything else to Auto. I only take something off Auto when it's not doing what I need it to do. The Fujifilm X-Pro2 has three dynamic range settings - 100% (on by default), 200%, and 400% - and an Auto setting if you want to let the camera take control. These settings gradually increase the amount of detail visible in the shadow and highlight areas, with the side-effect of more noise appearing in the image. Note that you can't actually turn this featur e off.

Conclusion

I don't find the optical finder very useful since EVFs today are real-time, and the electronic finder (EVF) isn't very good when compared to Sony's far superior EVFs. A huge problem with the X-Pro2's EVF is that it's rarely the correct brightness. It's usually too dark indoors, and sometimes too bright, in Auto brightness mode. In Manual brightness mode, it's never the right brightness as you move around. Sony's EVFs just work, while I'm always cursing at this Fuji's EVF.

Our X-Pro2 raw files were first converted in Adobe Camera Raw 9.4 before we inspected the level of noise through the ISO range. Exceptionally clean results were recorded between ISO 100 and ISO 1,600. Luminance noise starts to become apparent at ISO 3,200 and ISO 6,400 when viewing images at high magnification, but it has quite a pleasing fine film-like aesthetic and can be controlled effectively in Adobe Camera Raw. Needless to say, I wouldn’t hesitate to use ISO 3,200 or ISO 6,400 in challenging low-light situations. Rotating the ISO dial to ISO 12,800 introduces more luminance noise, but the level of fine detail remains high and it’s by all means a useable setting with some vigiliant application of noise reduction. Users could turn to the expanded ISO 25,600 setting for urgent situations, but we’d stay away from ISO 51,200 where there’s a drop in saturation. ISO sensitivity and noise – Raw Battery: The camera takes Fuji’s own NP-W126 or NP-W126S. The “S” variant is higher capacity and is the only one sold new now. Third-party manufacturers also make an NP-W126 variant that will work in the X-Pro2 for a significantly lower price. Whether you opt for the OEM or third-party battery, be prepared to buy at least two. I always take three on a shoot. I'd consider this Fuji if people are your thing since Fuji's people colors win over any other brand, but I prefer the Sony's color rendition for places and things.

OM System OM-5 Review

Seven years after the beginning of the interchangeable-lens X-series, the X-Pro3 arrives. This time it comes after other cameras of the same generation, the popular X-T3 and X-T30, which offer advanced video capabilities. The X-Pro series may not sell as well as the other two, but it has held on to a faithful audience that appreciates the unique shooting experience more than technical specifications. Geotagging, Wireless communication (Image transfer), View & Obtain Images, Remote camera shooting, PC Autosave, instax printer print The viewfinder is much improved, with a faster display rate of 85fps (inthe camera’s High Performance mode) meaning that details appear smooth and natural when moving around the scene. Its high resolution means that clarity is excellent. It also does well to keep the feed relatively clean when lighting conditions fall. The tactile rangefinder-type layout, whereby controls are large and prominently placed on the top plate, positively encourages manual control and experimentation. The flip side of this is that some familiarization is required; unless, that is, you previously owned the quirky X-Pro1. ISO range: Native range is 200-12,800. Expandable range is 100-51,200. I regularly use 3,200 and 6,400 without a worry.
