About this deal

Focusing isn't performed internally and the lens extends by around seven millimetres at its closest focus. Even so, the 52mm filter thread does not rotate, making it perfect for use with polarising and graduated filters. A rectangular hood attaches to the bayonet around the front of the lens and there is space inside for one filter. The focusing ring is well damped, making fine adjustments easy to apply. Thanks to its compact size, a fast aperture of f/1.4 and a versatile focal length, the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 undoubtedly became the most popular of the three lenses. I have had the pleasure of shooting with this lens a number of times by now. First, I used it for a few months at launch, then when I re-evaluated the Fuji X Pro1 after about a year and lastly after I made the decision to make Fuji X my mirrorless system of choice. The combination of metal and high quality plastics has resulted in a very light weight, yet robust build. 187 grams for a lens with a f/1.4 maximum aperture is very lightweight indeed, and it compliments the Fujifilm X-Pro1 perfectly with its retro styling.

Auto and manual focus is closed-loop, read directly from the image sensor. Therefore there are none of the mechanical errors present in rangefinder (LEICA) or SLR cameras. But for my taste, the 1.4 wins out. It has this sort of dreamy character (more about that in the review further down), and in the arena of sharpness, I think the 1.4 takes the cake. But if weather sealing is a big priority for you, you might disagree. While it is typical for wider angle lenses to require more correction when focusing closer, there is so little distortion correction being applied in-camera to the XF 35mm F/1.4 that it’s not even worth posting a comparison image. No profiling

The newer XF 35mm F/2 is much faster, quieter, smaller, and much cheaper (so if you don't need that extra F/1.4 aperture, go with the newer model) If there’s one criticism that was consistently agreed upon when it came to the XF 35mm F/1.4, it’s that autofocus wasn’t its strong suit. Both pace and accuracy could occasionally leave us wanting. The XF 35mm F/2 WR changes entirely. With its 0.08 sec AF time, the XF 35mm F/2 WR focuses faster on the X-E1 than the XF 35mm F/1.4 does on an X-T1 in good light. On an X-E1, you’ll spend more time waiting for the EVF to catch up with you than you will for the new 35 to focus. It’s impressive stuff. Accuracy

Ease of Use

If you really want to experience what the Fujifilm system is all about, this is the lens you have to have. Like so many of my Versus pieces, this one concludes with a series of provisos. There’s no clear cut winner here, and which lens you end up with will depend on your specific shooting preferences, not to mention your budget. It has its flaws, but the images it produces are so beautiful that it has a permanent spot in my photography kit. I never travel without it. It might not be the most compact lens, but from a size perspective it’s nowhere near as bulky as the other f1.4 primes offered by Fuji. The Fujifilm XF 33mm F1.4 R LM WR is not a macro lens, with the close-focus point at 30cm / 11.8in from the sensor plane and a maximum magnification of 0.15x. Bokeh The build quality of Fuji lenses is excellent and the 35mm f/1.4 is no exception. Unlike some of the plastic lenses we see on modern DSLR lenses today, the lens has an all-metal barrel, a metal mount and even a metal hood. It has a compact construction, small size and half the amount of glass when compared to full-frame lenses (with the lens being only designed for APS-C sensors). At just 187 grams, it is pretty comparable to the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G. It balances pretty well with every Fuji X series camera.
