About this deal

Usually, I’m reviewing their players, like the M15, M11 Pro, or the M3 Pro. But, today, I’m bound to review one of their IEM’s, the all-new FiiO FH3, which fits just under the FH5 and FH7. A good upgrade from the previous F9 Pro? Time to find out. The FiiO Series FiiO FA1

Treble - it's just ok, not much to say here. Might be too bright for some, it wasn't the case for me, however the cymbals might hurt once in a while. This range is nicely detailed and sparkly, timbre is probably a bit too metalic. You can easily eq high trebles down if that's too much for you. What I am really excited about and am pushing as much as possible are modular cables. I haven’t heard whether they affect sound quality negatively or positively, but I like the convenience they provide. They are a game changer, that’s for sure. Treble tuning is more balanced, leaving behind the FH5s sharpness for a smoother approach although with better micro detail resolution and better perceived extension.

FiiO FF3 Technical Specifications

FiiO FH3 offers a fairly natural placement of instruments, while the separation is on a moderate level due to the strong subbass presence. The FH3 sounds quite successful with instruments like bass guitars violas and drums, while pianos and violins do show an average level of extension due to general upper midrange character.

The stainless steel angled MMCX connectors are designed to make the wearing experience as painless as possible. The FH9 features a semi-open acoustic design incorporating FiiO's patented system of balanced pressure relief between the front and rear cavities. One of the things that I noticed with the FH3 is the quantity of the bass. It has a quite a lot of bass, maybe due to the S. turbo bass and the singular focus of the large beryllium coated drivers on the lows. With the FH3, I can almost feel the bass rumble around me, the bass on the FH3 simply sounds big despite imaging fairly centrally. The treble has an airy quality but not overly sharp or aggressive. I like how the FH3 is able to present details while not shoving it into my ears in a strident manner. Whatever song is thrown at them, even ones that are heavy on percussion, the FH3 is able to deliver a fairly balanced tone shy of splashiness and grating sibilance. Soundstage & Imaging

Founded in 2007, FiiO went from being a small, chi-fi outsider, to one of the biggest companies in the audiophile world. IEM, headphone amps, DACs, and obviously DAPs, they did it all and did it well. So much that when a new player comes out, it usually becomes the benchmark that other brands have to refer to, like the FiiO M11 or the Q3.The FiiO FH3 is the latest member of the FH series Hybrid In-Ear Monitors with a 2 BA+1 DD Triple Driver Configuration that is protected with a very esthetical and robust aluminum alloy monitor shell. However, the most important part is the sound performance of the FH3 that stands out especially for its price. It offers an entertaining yet fairly detailed sound tuning thanks to its great subbass response, a slightly recessed but pretty airy & transparent midrange character, and a treble tuning, which shows a silky smooth and easy to listen to presentation. With a 3-way configuration, the strength should be the ability to clearly present more detail at each frequency range, as each driver is optimally tuned to produce only a narrow band of frequencies. The lower treble area sounds fairly bright and is able to produce an above average level of clarity and definition. Instruments such as organs, pianos and soprano voices are shown with a good grade of presence. The Bass filter works by attenuating the upper frequencies thus enhancing the low end. The Balanced filter is the true middleman of the three with a tad bit more energy up top and mids which push a bit more forward to my ears. The Treble filter is basically just an open nozzle with simply a screen. It is Probably the most U-shaped of the three, with a more open sound, bringing almost the best-balanced replay of the three tuning filters as well. Albeit a tad brighter but also a tad more open and airier without adding harshness and not affecting the fantastic Bass.
