There is a safety button in the centre of the control handle that must be depressed before the operator may use the machine. This is standard with most electric lawn mowers. Mulching Adjusting the height of lawn mowers has always been an issue for many users with difficult and fiddly to adjust mechanism. However, with the Bosch model the height adjustment button is extremely simple and takes a matter of seconds to get that perfect height that can be clearly seen from the indicator.

While there aren’t any complex functions, the Bosch 36-550 is designed for ease of use. It boasts superior ErgoFlex handles that give the mower a more comfortable position when working as well as being lightweight and beautifully easy to manoeuvre. Main Features If you’ve struggled with uncomfortable mowers in the past then this is an excellent option. The whole point of this design is that the user stands in a more natural position and reduces strain which could go a long way in easing pain and discomfort that is exacerbated by other mowers. The 37 centimetres cutting width seems to hit the sweet spot between being too small (increasing time and number of passes) and too large (difficult to manoeuvre and store). I also tested the almost identical but slightly larger Bosch UniversalRotak 650. In my video review, I found that both the 550 and 650 models have some key upgrades that make them excellent choices for medium to large lawns. Cutting and grass collection is improved. Bosch has also made environmental and durability enhancements.

The Bosch UniversalRotak 550 does have an integrated rear roller for a stripy lawn appearance. Grass Box Capacity If you happen to fall into this category, unfortunately the Bosch UniversalRotak 36-550 does NOT have a rear roller Another beneficial feature of this mower is the central carry handle, which is well positioned and balanced for transportation. The Blades on the Bosch UniversalRotak 550 are made from hardened steel, coated to keep them sharper for longer and prevent corrosion. Though the blades are sharp, it is recommended that the operator keeps the blades clean and free from dead grass. Bosch has installed a cable, far shorter than the area that the mower can cut, at 10 metres. The mower is rated to cut 550 square metres, for example a 10×55 metre lawn. The Rotak 550 is a rotary mower with a cutting width of 37 cm. Bosch do basic rotary models that include the 32R, 34R and 36R but this model is a more advanced design. With a 1300 watt motor that has a PowerDrive motor that produces exceptional torque due to clever reduction gearing.The Bosch UniversalRotak 550 is well-built for medium to large gardens, though the 10 meter power cord may be a bit short for some larger areas. Bosch’s direct drive electric motor means there are no belts or gears prone to wear down over time. Large wheels make it easy to maneuver, especially when the grass box is full. The Bosch UniversalRotak 550 has a very respectable 40 litre grass box. Though this may not be enough for the full 550 square metre rating, it will reduce the number of emptying trips that you will need to do. Moreover, the handle features dual folding hinges meaning that storing it becomes much less of a hassle. Thankfully, this is an area in which the Bosch UniversalRotak 36-550 also excels. With a whopping six adjustable cutting heights, ranging from 25-70mm, this machine will give you a year-round, all lawn type, perfectly adaptable, mowing experience. One that most competitors in this price range fail to meet, with the majority of mowers, offering only three height settings. Oh, and did we mention, that it’s all done by the push of a button? Now, I’m not saying this mower is skimping on features, because that is what the EasyRotak range is designed for. For those that want a mower that is well built and will cut the lawn effectively and cleanly, without features you will not use and don’t want to pay for, then this Bosch EasyRotak 36-550 may well be the perfect mower for you. This Bosch EasyRotak 36-550 is supplied with a rear roller, however due to the lightweight nature of this mower, the stripes will not be long lasting as you would achieve with a heavier petrol lawn mower or a dedicated lawn roller. The grass box is easy to attach securely and remove from the mower; the compacted grass clippings empty easily with no obstructions (see my video above). Practicalities This really is the easiest and smoothest height adjustment I have used and wish all lawn mower brands adopted this mechanism.
