About this deal

Whilst these values are based on prediction and the truth of what everything in the Horus Heresy box is worth will become clearer in time, ultimately this table simply serves to show that there are likely to be some jaw-dropping savings on offer. Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness Review – Price and Availability There are more specific changes available in both the Liber Hereticus and Liber Astartes, but we don’t get those in this box. The titanic Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness boxed set contains a treasure trove of content, from a massive rulebook detailing the setting and stories of the Horus Heresy, as well as gorgeous photography and art, and all the core rules you need to play the game. The box also contains 54 Citadel miniatures – including a massive Spartan Assault Tank and a host of MKVI ‘Corvus Armour’ Tactical Marines – allowing you to build two opposing forces for out-of-the-box play, or construct a huge Legion force all your own. Alongside all of this, you’ll get all the game accessories and rules reference materials you need to immerse yourself in the worlds of the Age of Darkness. This is a challenging, yet extremely rewarding kit. Veteran builders will have an absolute field day with this one. The Miniatures – Round-Up Warmaster Horus Lupercal has plunged the Imperium of Mankind into a cataclysmic war of unimagineable ferocity. Setting brother against brother he has risen up against the Emperor taking half of the Legiones Astartes with him. The nine steadfast loyal legions defy this onslaught through years of strife to the culmination in 30014 of the Siege of Terra. The Horus Heresy: Age Of Darkness is the long-awaited prequel to Warhammer 40000 depicting the era 10,000 years before.

This is a Scatter dice. Scatter dice are used to make using powerful weapons, like cannons or other heavy artillery a bit more exciting. They work hand-in-hand with the templates that we’ll get to in a moment. It is, however, suggested that even experienced players read the full rule set so they don’t make any rash assumptions about changes made or not made. The main difference between this rule set and its predecessor is the introduction of Reaction Phases. These can occur in the Movement Phase, the Firing Phase and the Assault Phase. This changes the traditional procedure of Player 1 does all their actions then Player 2 does all theirs. This interactive ability means the non-phasing player may move towards or away from another unit they see. It can return fire or evade fire aginst a firing unit and it can conduct overwatch fire or “Hold the Line” against a charging unit. All this adds up to a more immersive session as the turns progress. Front-and-centre, we’re going to have a look at the books and reference sheets that come in the Age of Darkness box.

Cataphractii? Well you can run them, but if you can swap them for Tartaros terminators I think it fits the theme well. It doesn’t really matter because the approach will be the same – strap lightning claws to them, run them up in the Spartan, and cause havoc on the charge with the Falcons special rule. The same goes with your Contemptor – you’re going to want to be aggressive, so prioritise weaponry that lets you make the most of that. A melta on the gun arm and a heavy flamer in the fist isn’t a bad idea, though a meltagun in the fist really doubles up on throwing down the pain against vehicles on a very tough platform.

The Contemptor Dreadnought is a faithful translation of the resin kit that comes on two medium-sized sprues. Unlike the Venerable Contemptor Dreadnought from Betrayal at Calth, the model is fully posable with ball joints for the arms, hips, and legs, as well as movable elbow and knee joints, and two differently posed feet pieces for each leg. The 5 man squads consist of 4 Terminators and 1 Terminator Sergeant. The Terminators are armed with a Combi-Bolter and a Power Fist which can be exchanged individually for a Heavy Flamer and a Chainfist respectively or collectively for two Lightning Claws.

Uphold the strict hierarchies of Guilliman’s Legion with this set of 10 Veteran Helmets. These are compatible with various armour sets, and can be used to denote the high-ranking status of your best blue boys – or upgrade an entire XIII Legion Veteran Squad. Ultramarines MKIII Veteran Torsos Featuring a total of 60 special weapons of six different types – 10 each of flamers, plasma guns, meltaguns, rotor cannons, volkite charger, and volkite calivers, each with five slightly different designs – the Special Weapons Upgrade Set will give you plenty of options for turning your Mark VI Space Marines into Tactical Support Squads. Heavy Weapons Upgrade Set – Missile Launchers and Heavy Bolters Its second purpose is flaying the flesh from the bones of the unworthy. After all, should you be a really poor loser, you can always take out your frustration on your enemy with one of these bad boys. Welts for days. Transfer Sheet

Ancient weapons from the Dark Age of Technology, these feared instruments of warfare have sent a chill up the spine (and a sting up the calf) or many gamers. The Bolters can have Bayonets or Chain Bayonets added and the legionaries can carry Frag grenades or Krak grenades. The standard armament is a Gravis bolt cannon and a Gravis power fist with inbuilt combi-bolter. Either of these can be swapped for Gravis auto cannon, bolt cannon, lascannon, melta cannon or power fist with inbuilt combi-bolter. The combi-bolter can itself be swapped for a Heavy flamer, Plasma blaster, Graviton gun or Meltagun. Talking of hard targets, here’s the Kratos Heavy Assault Tank – a battlefield behemoth that’ll send your seven-foot sci-fi supersoldiers scampering for safety. It’s tough, fast, and positively bristling with arcane armaments, which you can customise to your dark heart’s content. There are three options for the turret gun, four apiece for the hull weapons and the sponsons, nine choices of pintle gun, plus dozer blades, searchlights, and gunners. Better yet, you can field this beast in squadrons of two. If you get on with these three books, read The Flight of the Eisenstein by James Swallow, which is an excellent book but does rely heavily on the reader having read these three.

With no fewer than 54 miniatures in the set, Age of Darkness box contains the largest offering of figures we’ve seen in a box in a good while. This is an old-school 40K rule (though it was also used in Warhammer Fantasy) that many people will be glad to see a return. This also leads rather nicely on to… Weapon Templates This is a spectacular selection of miniatures, and will excite both painters and gamers.
