About this deal

The F200 (2CH) channel camera also has three affordable rear-view camera options for consumers and drivers of commercial vehicles. The rear camera option allows drivers to have a clear view of incidents at the rear, recording HD 720p video at 30 frames per second. For taxi drivers, there is an IR camera (internal) option. It films inside the vehicle making taxi journeys safer for the driver and rider. The external camera option is weatherproof and is useful for vehicles without a rear facing window, such as vans or even convertibles, to capture any incidents at the rear. If you want to record external events in complete darkness, the final option is the BCH-600IRW. This infrared camera is waterproof and has a larger array of LEDs. This model is aimed at vehicles that don’t have rear windows, and since it will be exposed to the elements, it’s robustly constructed. It also comes with a longer cable than the other options. Thinkware F200 – Image quality Brian Yang, THINKWARE’s General Manager of Global Business Development says: “Our new F200 dash cam offers a higher resolution recording whilst driving and parking, creating a better environment for the driver. Providing multiple features such as Wi-Fi app connection, Energy Saving Parking Recording and the Thermal Protection System are but a few of the functions our product offers. With a plethora of options and its modern design, we believe that the F200 will be a great match for many users’ requirements.” Housed in a sleek modern design, the THINKWARE F200 PRO captures 1080P Full HD resolution front and rear, producing clear footage to capture undeniable evidence! Supplied as a kit, the F200PD32 includes the front dash cam, rear cam, hard wire kit and 32GB Micro SD card.

As we said in the intro, this is a fairly compact dash cam, at least by Thinkware’s standards. It takes up more windscreen real estate than any member of the Garmin Dash Cam range, but we think it’s still satisfyingly compact.Flexibility is a key feature here, as the F200 Pro can be bought on its own as a single, front-facing camera. Or, you can buy it with a rear-facing camera too (which is the kit we’re reviewing here), and there’s also the option to add a GPS antenna to the bundle. The F200 Pro is compatible with the new Thinkware OBD Self-Fit Hardwire Installation Cablewhich enables the camera to be hardwired into your vehicle. The F200 Pro is compatible with various rear cameras, one of which can be selected as an optional extra. Advanced Driving Alert System (ADAS) including Lane Departure (LDWS), Forward Collision (FCWS), Urban Forward Collision (uFCWS) and Front Vehicle Departure (FVDW) when connected to the optional GPS Antenna (GPSANT, sold separately) To use the cloud features such as Remote Live View, Impact Notification, and Impact Video Upload, you have to connect your dash cam to the internet with a hotspot connection.

The app can be used to view a live feed from the camera, helping you position it just right, and the camera says aloud useful messages like “rear camera connected” to help with the setup process. The app is then used to view footage recorded by the camera (and the rear camera if you choose to install that too). Each file is named after the time and date it was recorded, and with a F or R to indicate whether it was shot by the front or rear camera. You don’t have to view and transfer footage this way, as popping the microSD card out works equally well. Wi-Fi connection mode will automatically disable if your dash cam’s connection with Wi-Fi does not last for more than 1 minute. If you cannot find the “Thinkware_XX” Wi-Fi network on your smartphone, please reboot your dash cam and try to connect again. If you are going away on holiday or leaving your vehicle for long periods of time then the F200 Pro Energy Saving Parking Recording mode can be used. This reduces power consumption by 1/3 and gives you 3x longer video recording than normal parking mode. When an impact is detected in this mode the camera records 20 seconds of footage after the impact. The variety of rear camera options and ability to add a GPS antenna with safety camera warnings make the F200 a flexible choice for different kinds of dash cam user. Unfortunately, it’s let down by its mediocre core video performance. If the compression wasn’t so aggressive, image quality would be improved and the Thinkware F200 would be a better choice.

The dash cam is now automatically searching for your hotspot. Once you see the blue bar pop-up at the top of the screen or hear "Connected to the internet", open Thinkware Cloud and you are connected. Front Vehicle Departure Warning (FVDW) alerts you in traffic when the vehicle in front has started to move to prevent a delayed responseIf you want to change any of the settings on the F200, you’ll first need to turn on its Wi-Fi and connect to it via your smartphone, and then load the Thinkware app. However, this doesn’t include a lot of extra options, other than being able to change the exposure for dark, middle and bright, independently for front and rear cameras. High-temperature protection system, the built-in thermal sensor will automatically turn off the F200 Pro to prevent overheating Safety Camera Alerts including speed camera, red light camera and mobile speed zones when connected to the optional GPS Antenna (GPSANT, sold separately)

To reconnect your phone hotspot each time you are in the vehicle, simply turn on the dash cam with your ignition and ensure the hotspot connection is enabled in your iPhone settings. When you encounter the message “Add a Network-enabled Dash Cam”, it means that your dash cam has not been properly registered for the cloud features. Continuous – activated automatically when you start the engine. Recorded videos are saved in one-minute segments with an auto-looping mechanism Scottish Highlands - AB36-38, AB55-56, FK17-21, IV1-39, IV52-54, IV63, KW1-14, PA21-40, PH19-26, PH30-41, PH49-50One thing I couldn’t find in the app was any way to change the recording resolution or quality. So that specified 720p resolution option doesn’t appear to be available. Thinkware F200 – Optional extras The standard Rear Camera is easily installed onto the inside of the rear window and records any events which occur behind the vehicle. The External Rear View Camera is suitable for vehicles which don’t allow for an internal rear camera and also records footage of any incidents from the rear-view of the vehicle.
