About this deal

Arriving in the Scottish Highlands, Kate begins to build a safe, loving new life for herself and her son. Firstly, thank you so much Paula for this ebook in exchange for an honest review on your debut novel. The beginning felt very juicy- and I like how the author tied together the beginning and the end. It really kept me going through the book, as I wanted to know what would lead up to that quote. LIES SHE TOLD is a dark and twisted mystery/psychological thriller by USA bestselling author, Cate Holahan, author of The Widower's Wife. This is a story of love and deceit.

The last half of the book is extremely good. Who killed the mistress? Was it Liza ... or her husband? And when her husband's best friend makes an appearance ... what does that mean to them both? I feel like the growth that Carly has gone through is really shown in this book. While she's still the bada** that we've come to love, we also get to see her vulnerable side in this book. There are quite a few moments where she really starts to doubt the things she's doing/has done and who can't relate to that? This book has a little bit of everything that we've come to love about DGS - romance, suspense, comedy, and mystery. The love between Carly and Hank makes me smile. :)

Hilary, our main character, is beyond a realistic portrayal of paranoid for something like what she's hiding. I suspected instantly what the secret was, just based on her initial memories of high school and pranks. She was part of a mean girl clique and pranked the wrong person who then committed suicide. YAWN

But when a shady character from Kate’s past turns up and starts to systematically and violently rip everything apart, she is forced to make a choice. I wouldn't necessarily class this as a psychological thriller, but it definitely is a suspenseful thriller. From this moment, it is clear that Kate’s life is going to take a turn for the worse. Ryan is instantly unlikable; he is slimy, manipulative and viscous. It was obvious how this character fit into Kate’s past, even down to his secret phone-calls to Daz. In this manner, I wish the writer had created more suspense by adding ambiguity to Ryan or even Daz’s character. It was pretty clear, pretty soon, what Ryan’s intentions were and, to be honest, I just wanted the narrative to reach that stage sooner rather than later. From the author of the USA Today–bestselling novel The Widower’s Wife, comes an electrifying story of love and deceit, where the truth can be darker than fiction.I did wonder if people would like a second book. I started writing it and at that time I was messaged by a publishing house and asked me if I had any further work to show them. I was stunned as that is very rare for that to happen as I didn’t have an agent. I found an agent with Darley Anderson Literary Film and TV Agency and here we are.” I don’t know whether it’s because I read so many thrillers or I have a habit of constantly guessing but apart from one of the reveals, I guessed the rest of them. 🙈

I have never read Cate Holahan before. She is a young author and based on this newest novel of hers, she is going to have a long successful career. She is brilliant and I want to be in her head again soon! As Beth has grown up in this village, she knows the victim, as well as most other residents, quite well. Talking to her family, friends, neighbors, Harper and Miller learn nothing about any kind of a motive. Any suspect was immediately looked at, but all their alibis seem to be aboveboard. If there’s one thing I like doing it’s discovering new authors. Catherine Yaffe is certainly a new author for me. Catherine’s debut novel is ‘The Lie She Told’ which was released on 27th September 2020. May I just say ‘The Lie She Told’ is a fantastic debut novel, which I thoroughly enjoyed but more about that in a bit. One of the things Cate Holahan did very well was to almost mirror the two storylines, blurring the lines so it was hard to differentiate where the two differed, as the fictional story she was writing about Beth, began to look more like her life.Well-written with a solid story line, had twists and turns that rival a roller coaster ride. Along with trying to solve the case with the detectives, it was interesting to see how their relationship bounced from their first meeting to having to work together to catch the person responsible. The characters are solidly drawn .. I can see where this could be the start of a very cleverly written series.

As Liza’s life is spinning out of control (balancing a marriage and trying to start a family), her editor is pushing her hard to recreate the magic of her debut book. And Liza thinks she may have found the key with her new character...Beth. Dual storylines. One fact, one fiction. But the lines become warped as the two begin to crossover and intertwine. The Lies She Told is book five in the Carly Moore series by Denise Grover Swank. Wow, just wow! Every book in this series seems to be even more intense than the one before and this one is no exception. Once again, I can't say enough amazing things about Denise and her writing. Her writing is captivating and her character development is always spot-on. Denise makes it extremely easy to get lost in the world of her characters and feel like you are right there with them throughout their journey. Damn, what a story! I loved it. This book follows an author named Liza, who is losing her audience as a mystery writer. Her last book didn't do so well and she's feeling a lot of pressure to write the next great thriller. On top of that, she's struggling with trying to get pregnant and not being able to. This is a story within-a-story and we get to see the new book she's writing in alternating chapters. Her story follows a new Mother named Beth who finds out her husband Jake is cheating on her. The lines between fiction and reality begin to blur and the chapters from her book start to blend into her reality. Eventually, Liza struggles to figure out what is real and what is fiction, and the reader is left wondering as well. Definitely would recommend this to fans of the psychological thriller.... was it the best I’ve ever read? no, but it was pretty darn good!I found it to be well written and well paced. The plot was interesting and well developed. There were twists and turns. The characters were compelling. There were a lot of breadcrumbs dropped along the way, and by 40% I had an excellent idea where this was heading. That said it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story as I still found myself intrigued on how this author was weaving the two stories together. This fascination with the human psyche now crosses over into her debut novel, 'The Lies She Told', a totally immersive psychological thriller that proves every prize has a price - especially desire. I was also diagnosed with a stomach condition which left me not knowing how I was going to feel each day when I wake up and that has caused me a lot of extra stress. I worked full-time in managerial roles in retail and when I took unwell I didn’t know what my purpose was or what I was capable of. I was scared to take risks in new jobs until I knew what I could do, so I wanted to do something I enjoyed and I thought let’s try writing.” As the saying goes, don’t just take my word for it. I’m sure many more will rate this book higher, like this more, have many more positive things to say about this.
