About this deal

Brighter, Longer-Lasting Flame: Stearin wax has a higher melting point than paraffin wax, which means that it can produce a brighter, longer-lasting flame. This makes it a popular choice for creating candles that are meant to be burned for longer periods of time, such as pillar candles or votives. The quantity used is basically up to you, a 10-gram bag is sufficient to make up to 10kg of coloured wax – this can vary depending on the intensity of the colour required. This will also vary depending on the type of wax used as natural waxes (soy and beeswax) are harder to colour with bright vivid colours this is because the colour struggles to anchor itself to the wax. Fragrance to Wax % Either way, it’s better to use soy wax candles over paraffin wax (or “mineral wax”) candles. Are all soy wax candles non-toxic? Stearin and wax are both solid at room temperature and are used as ingredients in the production of various products such as cosmetic products, food, and candles. However, there are some key differences between the two.

In fact, to be able to label a product as “soy candle”, only 51% need to be soy, according to FDA rules. While they may be affordable, pretty to look at, and come in dozens of scents, paraffin candles are not biodegradable and in fact, are slightly toxic.Only essential oils or eco-friendly colors are added to some of their candles to scent or color them. Stearin can also be used as wax, without any additives, either for the production of container candles or for the manufacture of molded candles. Coconut wax candles are only better than soy wax candles if they are grown locally and with certified organic or fairtrade farmers. Is coconut wax sustainable? While paraffin wax may be sourced from dead plants and animals, the process it undergoes includes toxic chemicals, which pose environmental problems and contain many toxic substances. The health effects associated with paraffin wax aren’t thought to give enough exposure to most candle lovers, but it’s important to also look at the environmental impact of different candle wax.Department of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia Paraffin Wax and Soy Wax are the most popular wax for candle making but I thought I’d mention Beeswax and Gel Wax here as well just in case you wanted to explore your candle making options. However, with more natural alternatives becoming readily available, paraffin has started to become thought of as the ‘bad wax’ by many. It’s largely produced from the by-products of refining crude oil, which unless you’re a cave hermit you’ll know is bad for the environment.
