About this deal

In 2019 and 2020, Seiko presented a ton of new watches in its Seiko 5 sports collection. In addition, its loved and appreciated SKX dive watches were all discontinued and replaced by a brand-new collection. Friend we’d recommend it to first: Seiko enthusiasts looking for a statement diver, or those passionate about ocean conservation.

There’s not much to compare between the SRPE and SRPD watches because they are all under the Seiko 5 Sports mantle. Aside from the watch being mounted on the bezel, these two are pretty much the same. In terms of moddability, the SRPE Seiko 5 Sports watch is still very much in the discovery phase. People are just starting to experiment with it as a modding base, and not a lot of suppliers offer parts for the as of yet. If it weren’t clear, I like the change—I love the change. I think it ties the case together: look at how the polished tops of the crown guards finally have a friend to play with, instead of some itinerant, everchanging rotation of numbers that always seem a little off.If they simply refreshed the SKX with the 4R36, people would have been ecstatic. Source: WatchReviewBlog Watch sizing can only be generally carried out on watches with metal bracelets, steel, titanium, gold, etc. Thankfully Seiko decided to give the SRPE55 100 meters of water resistance. This made me feel comfortable doing just about anything with it. I had no issues getting it wet or submerging it in water. The beefy crown guards made me feel secure enough to not have to worry about the crown popping out accidentally.

We understand the importance of sizing the length of your watch bracelet or strap to provide the perfect fit. Our simple to use watch sizing guide allows you to measure the size of your wrist from the comfort of your own home. For over 50 years, Seiko 5 Sports has delivered consistently high levels of reliability, durability, performance and value, endearing them to lovers of mechanical watches worldwide. Today, with a new design, this much-loved timepiece is re-born. With so many OEM design choices for the SRPD, there’s less of a need to change a base watch, but still, you’d be glad to know that there are a lot of cross-compatible mod parts between these two lines of divers. A lot of mod parts for the SKX007 can be used for the SRPD Sports series, and you can find the complete compatibility list here .Frankly, there is nothing else to say about the watch – just look at that thing. I’m crazy about it. I love it. I’m head over heels. It’s so many of the things I love about the SKX in a watch that doesn’t feel like a huge, cheap, compromise. That’s not to say it’s perfect, or that I can’t find things to complain about (cough… cough… bracelet), but this is such a major improvement over what we all expected Seiko to serve us that I’m inclined to just give praise where praise is due. If Seiko had just started here, maybe then in a year or so, when they release 7,000 versions of a dumbed-down SKX with dials straight from Mortal Kombat sprites, we would be ready for it. The “Turtle” case design is one of the most popular and longest-lived concepts in the history of Seiko, appearing in countless guises across the brand’s lineup for decades since the release of the original 6309 dive watch in 1976. Like so many beloved Seiko nameplates from the “Pogue,” to the “Willard,” and the “John Player Special,” the “Turtle” moniker was never an official designation from the brand, but grew up organically from the brand’s robust fan community. For over 40 years, then, Seiko has always tacitly accepted the name, but never officially allowed it to influence the long-running cushion case design. The Japanese giant finally breaks this streak in 2021 for a good (and thematic) cause: raising awareness for the Oceanic Society environmental group to help preserve the world’s seven species of sea turtles with a trio of high-spec “King Turtle” variants. These three Seiko Prospex U.S. Special Edition models — the Seiko Prospex SRPH55, the Seiko Prospex SRPH57, and the Seiko Prospex SRPH59 – go beyond simply aiding the turtles, though, and spotlight some genuinely spectacular dial finishing capabilities at a remarkably affordable price point. When reviewer would personally wear it: Beach days or dive trips, or when looking for a bolder accent piece alternative to the standard dive watch.
