About this deal

Connected Line/Hot to an L input on the Shelly (I don’t think it matters which of the three L inputs you use, but I chose the middle one). Configure the actions for your device - enable, disable, add duration and URLs. Settings POWER ON DEFAULT MODE You’ll want to set the default state of the dimmer when power is restored to it (e.g. after a power outage). I set mine to default to the last known state: Home Assistant will display a repair issue for the Shelly device if push updates from this device do not reach the Home Assistant server. Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer (The Device) can switch on/off and vary the brightness of compatible dimmable lights. It can be easily wired in the place of a standard US light switch. Enhanced with all the gen2 firmware flexibility, it provides professional integrators with additional options for end customer solutions. It can work standalone in a local Wi-Fi network, or it can also be operated through cloud home automation services.

I got similar from them, they are just covering themselves against people who buy the retractive switches, wire them to conventional dimmers or direct to lights and wonder why the lights flash when you press the button and don't stay on! :-O A vertical bar of white dots is lit, when the lights are turned on. Each lit dot represents 14% increase of the brightness (84-100% for the top dot). Remember to replace the state_topic and command_topic shellydimmer2-xxxxxxxxx with whatever is the MQTT prefix for your device. The entity id of your light will be what you put in the name field (spaces replaced by underscores). This code tells Home Assistant how to control and react to the Shelly Dimmer 2. You’ll have to restart Home Assistant for this to take effect. After that, you’ll be able to control the brightness and on/off of the lights via Home Assistant and the Leviton switch. If Shelly devices are in a different subnet than the Home Assistant server, you should ensure communication on UDP port 5683 between these subnets. All electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician under the electrical safety act and AS/NZS300. Doing your own electrical can be dangerous.

The integration uses Device Name to name its entities if the device has only one relay or no relays at all. Before proceeding with the wiring make sure you’ve identified the line, neutral, and load wires, and then turn the power to the circuit off at the breaker for safety. Hopefully, you can see from the diagram that I:There are two generations of devices. Both generations are supported by this integration. There are some differences in how devices should be configured and in the naming of entities and devices between generations. Shelly device configuration (generation 1) I prefer to not have a cloud connection, and I want to be able to automate my fireplace based on other factors in my home. The Shelly app and interface allow for some automation, but I prefer to use Home Assistant, my favorite automation controller. SNTP synchronizes your device's system time with a server that has already been synchronized by another source. There is already a set server, which is the default one - http://time.google.com, however if there are any problems, you can easily change it and enter a new one in the text box. Changing this setting will reboot the device. ADVANCED DEVELOPER SETTINGS

If you think your Shelly devices are working correctly and don’t want to change your network/configuration, you can ignore the repair issue. Still, you must know you are giving up the best experience of using first-generation Shelly devices with Home Assistant.

Smart Home Dimming with The Shelly Dimmer 2

Lutron Caseta Smart Home Dimmer Switch– (luxury look and very highly rated product, but you’ll need the Caseta Smart Bridge if you don’t have one already) Detached: (Button and Switch) - Set Shelly device to be in Detached switch mode - switch is separated from the relays. Next, you’ll want to set up the way the Shelly reacts to buttons. I’m using a two-button switch, so I set it up accordingly in Settings->Button Type: If you are switching from two locations, you also need to use 2-way switches for both the plain switches and dimmers (many dimmers are 2-way compatible). You can only have one dimmer on the circuit.

Restore last: (Button and Switch) - Configure Shelly device to Restore the last mode it was in, when it has power. For my installation, I went with fig. 1 and this is my rudimentary wiring diagram for the Shelly Dimmer 2 and my Leviton switch: Home Assistant has a native Shelly integration, but for some reason, it didn’t work with the Shelly Dimmer 2. I received an error message about the Shelly being on an unsupported firmware version. It probably will be fixed in a couple of releases. No worries though. You can integrate with the Shelly via MQTT right now. First, you need to set up an MQTT broker and integrate it with Home Assistant. I’ve explained what MQTT is, how it works, and how to set it up in Home Assistantso I won’t repeat it here. Set up MQTT on the Shelly Dimmer 2 Connected an L input on the Shelly to the line input on the Leviton switch to allow it to send a signal to the Shelly when a button is pressed (again, I don’t think it matters which L input you use). I will be buying some Shelly bypasses for each circuit to be used on the ceiling rose with each shelly device (as per the diagrams for low load circuits) but will probably use one for each circuit regardless.
