About this deal

It has so many other tropes that I don’t want to spoil but if you want to know… look at the bookshelves here. I do gotta say though that some of the things certain characters (such as Cam and Brady) said were a bit cringe imo but not that bad that I had to look away lol. Also, can I just add a more general observation. This is not particular to this book only, I’ve seen this done 100 times before and that’s the overprotective brother routine. Honestly, I don't really like the author's writing. And the story and characters are just totally unrealistic; it's clear that the author writes from a list of plot points she wants to hit without truly doing any world or character building. Just like an actor takes on a role and has to understand the nuances for how characters would behave in certain instances, author's also need to do this work to bring their characters and worlds to life. These are the boys of Brayshaw High, who are treated like kings and are inconceivably attractive. Raven is the girl that got right in their way.

Nonetheless, the pacing of the book was very well done and I loved how character-driven it was. Do gotta say there isn’t much of a plot but the characters made up for it! (Except for Chase lmao) I will say this isn't a perfect book. If it wasn't so hard to put down, and the hero wasn't absolute perfection, I would've rated this lower. The reason why is the writing is a bit chaotic. There's a lot of exclamation points and text lingo (lots of '?!') that made the characters come off immature and juvenile. I also found it a little long, and some of the internal thoughts were repetitive or unnecessary. For me, this could've been edited a bit more and had some parts reworked a bit. I still think it's a beautiful story and would recommend it to anyone. It's definitely going to be a top 2023 read. So I liked this well enough, but I feel like I could have liked it a bit more about 10 years ago, not when these characters are close to my daughters age. I can’t be thinking about my precious girl doing all the things these kids are doing ~ fake id’s, underage drinking and hookin up and what not. Can’t say I didn’t do it myself, but ya know, not my sweet baby girl. Going to have to start phasing out of reading YA romance. A main trope in this book is a love triangle, but it's honestly so much more than that. It has a love triangle of sorts, but not really, in my opinion. The heroine does feel conflicted at times, but it's pretty clear for most of the book that the triangle is heavier on one side than the other to everyone but the heroine. I know love triangles aren't for everyone, but I swear this isn't like other books with this trope and there's a clear winner between the two men. I love love love this book. It had the right amount of drama without drawing it out, while keeping the storyline moving forward.

noah riley is the best book boyfriend of all time. i will forever adore him. he is the most selfless, most amazing human being to ever exist. i love the way he sacrificed himself in so many situations. and the love he had for his mom just melts my heart. One night Cam finally talked Arianna into going out with her because they would be on their own without the boys. During this outing, Arianna ran into Noah who, although enamored, recognized the hurt and brokenness that embodied her. Noah listened and acted like a real gentleman. They hit it off and began a wonderful friendship because he knew that is all she was ready for at that point.

They say that it doesn’t matter that she is actually one of them now, and there is nothing that can ever change that. Not even her, if she should dare try. Every girl wanted a bite, but who could blame them? They were model students, star athletes, and undercover bad boys. No matter a girl’s type, one of the three was sure to fit the bill. Trust the hype- there is something just so special about this story. And, because of that, I really can’t tell you much about it. Part of the experience is trying to understand just where this romance is going. Like our heroine, we’re trying to figure out heart out- just who it beats for, just what we want to be true. And like all other Meagan stories, it’s not at all what you expect, in more ways than one. And that is what makes it such charming- life isn’t told in blurbs of tropes. Life unfolds in experiences, mistakes, and moments- it's part of growing up and maturing. And thematically this book really shines in conveying that, in giving us a messy story with young people trying to figure out their big feelings, trying to work through big mistakes, and trying to figure out just who they are and what they want. This is a story about the courage it takes to find yourself, to go on this crazy journey of life, to muddle through the messy art of living and loving with grace for yourself...and others. For example, when the heroine is telling us (lots of telling in this book) about her twin brother and his two best friends, we get:

I was so upset finishing this book solely because I never wanted it to end. If i could read it over and over again forever, I would. This story was perfect and beautiful. But so heartbreaking and raw and painful. You will go through every emotion possible with this book. But it will leave you feeling complete. I will love this book forever and ever and will never stop thinking about it. Oh my! What a ride this story was! I just have to start by saying this is my favorite story of all time! It has definitely made it to the top of the "Read Again" list and I just can't wait to do it again. I know it’s advertised as a love triangle but for my girlies that don’t like the trope… it’s not your typical love triangle where she is struggling a lot…. I feel like you are going to root for the person that she ends up with no matter what. (My opinion, of course) Arianna Johnson “Ari,” her twin brother Mason, her closest friend Cameron, and their friends Brady and Chase make the decision to spend the remaining of the summer at their beach house together before they travel off to Vix for their first semester of college knowing that they won’t see each other as often as they have in the past. During their time at the beach home, Ari makes the decision to communicate her feelings to Chace because she believes that this will allow her to finally be with the guy she’s had her heart set on for a long time.

Say You Swear could have easily stood on its own as a standalone novel, as the side characters had minimal impact on the main plot so it could have cleared up a lot of confusion if they weren’t added. But let me tell you now- Say You Swear as the dreamiest book boyfriend of all time. I legitimately could not love this character more- my heart was exploding with tenderness for him once we figure him out, I fervently and unendingly love him. The swoon, the sexiness, his thoughtfulness and patience. He’s the kind of beautiful soul that breaks your heart from it’s preciousness. Not at all the man we think he will be based on how we see him at first- but isn’t that the very magic of Meagan Brandy? She gives us characters who on the surface seem to be one thing, but steadily she gives us so much more to them beneath the surface, a cornucopia of feelings and complexity. Our hero here has a sincerity that's almost unbelievable in it’s authenticity - but he’s just that great. Passion, loyalty, insecurities, and longing- this is a man whose love is special. So much more than we know….but Meagan tests it and us, in ways unexpected. Over and over again.

Eventually, it was obviously apparent to everyone that they were IN LOVE, the really-deeply-truly-soul searching kind of love, and Noah has no problem claiming Arianna proudly to everyone--including her brother. Enter Chase again... Now that Noah has her, Chase sees and wants her. He is green with envy and tries to interfere whenever he can.Chapt 12 had my heart in flutters and heartbreak yet relieved for a new girl to come out of her shell ….
