About this deal

All potted plants will need repotting at some stage as soils eventually lose their nutritional value. While the exact time frame depends on the type of plant, a good rule of thumb is to repot every 12-18 months. For houseplants, ideally you’re looking for either a potting mix (sometimes called a ‘potting medium’) or a perlite-based one. A multipurpose potting soil will usually work well with most indoor varieties, but it’s worth knowing there are also specially formulated soils available, designed for potting up cacti, succulents and orchids, and even carnivorous plants. For harder cuttings and for fragile plants increase to two parts Perlite and one part Gro-Sure Seed & Cutting Compost. Keep well watered, but ensure pots can freely drain. We tend to add a couple of spoonfuls of it to potting soil and mix it together before filling the pot; this way the soil remains loose and won’t compact around the plant when it goes in. It’s important to remember that perlite is 100% inorganic and doesn’t contain any nutrients, so it does need to be combined with soil or compost to work. You can also use perlite for outdoor plants, too: it’s particularly useful when establishing root cuttings, and can even help aerate a newly laid lawn. Excellent thermal conductivity of expanded perlite decreases the influence of daily temperature changes on plants as much as possible. In soilless agriculture after sterilization Perlite can be used during 6 years without any harm to the soil structure. It ensures early harvesting

Before transplanting plants from pots to containers it is recommended to water the plants well and allow to drain. Remove plants from their pots and place into the container, firming compost around the plant roots. Once the container is fully planted, water well and feed as appropriate For soft stem and leaf cuttings, use a mixture of equal parts by volume of cutting compost and Gro-Sure Perlite. Perlite: Mix with soil when planting out to help hold water and nutrients close to the root system Use alone for seed germination Improves water and nutrients holding capacity when mixed with compost. Primarily a compost additive, Perlite helps to stimulate root development and growth. Before use, dampen Perlite to reduce dust. If using the whole bag, add about a litre of water and allow to soak. Depending on the plant in question though, a standard multipurpose ‘do it all’ potting mix might not be the optimum medium for good growth – orchids, for instance, need plenty of root aeration, while cacti love a free-draining compost. If you want to grow these plants, you’re advised to either buy specialist compost mixes or make the additions yourself, by adding growing mediums like vermiculite, perlite and coconut coir to your potting mix.Use a mixture of Gro-Sure All Purpose Compost with 25% Gro-Sure Perlite added. Perlite can be used wholly or in part replacement of sand and/or grit to create a light and very open structure, improving drainage, aeration and insulation. The best soil for indoor plants you can buy in 2023 1. Growth Technology Houseplant Focus Repotting Mix: Best multipurpose potting soil Perlite provides soil aeration and drainage with over 90% of its total porosity and 60% of aeration porosity. The majority of houseplants need to be planted in a dedicated potting mix. This will include all the necessary nutrients your plants need to grow, along with the ability to provide both water and oxygen to the plant’s roots.

Perlite can be used for seed starting, rooted cuttings, potting-on or planting out. If using for seed starting, Perlite’s structure maintains moisture and temperature levels. Due to the listed above features Perlite is successfully used as soil regulator in green houses, as nourishment in seedlings growing and as growing environment in soilless agriculture. When potting up with Houseplant Focus over the years, we’ve always found the consistency really easy to work with: there are never any big chunks of organic matter present, and water drains through easily from the outset with too much compacting. The soil is invariably moist when opening the bag, and we’ve had no encounters with bugs or pests, although quality will invariably change from bag to bag. At Plagron, we understand the importance of quality, which is why we use only the finest ingredients in our products. Our team of experts works tirelessly to develop innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of growers around the world. Regardless, it’s imperative that you remove as much of the old soil as possible from the roots when you repot.

Before use, dampen Perlite to reduce dust. If using the whole bag, add about a litre of water and allow to soak. When mixed with compost, Perlite holds water and nutrients in the compost, producing a healthier growing media.Perlite can be used for seed starting, rooted cuttings, potting-on or planting out.
