About this deal

The Moon Cerberus rear light comes pre-set with five different light modes which you can easily switch between including two constant, two flashing, and a Day Flash mode which can keep you seen in direct sunlight. Also included is the VLS system which allows you to set any lumen you want - simply press and hold the VLS button. Rechargeable With its genuine 270-degree visibility, compatibility with aero seatposts, powerful output (especially impressive is the retina-searing day flash), extendable run-times, aerodynamic shape and low weight there aren't many lights that can shade the Moon Cerberus at this price point. I predict it will be particularly popular with time triallists now that rear lights in CTT time trials are compulsory as of 1st January 2020. It misses a perfect 10 because of the rubber bung that can be easily lost and the USB-C cable it uses. Verdict Short Press: turns light on (light off) / switch between output options for current mode (light on). Finance is subject to application, financial circumstances and borrowing history. The constant modes are a claimed 3:30 and 1:45 but these can be stretched to 18 hours using the VLS button (variable lumen system), which is basically a dimmer switch to preserve battery life or spare your riding mates' eyes. VLS can also be applied to the flashing modes. The Cerberus comes programmed with five output modes: two constant modes and three flash modes. The two constant modes have a default lumen output of 25 and 50 lumens with run-times of 3:30 and 1:45 (hr:min) respectively. Most riders will likely take advantage of the flash modes as they offer higher runtime and better night time visibility. The three flash modes are a standard on/off, a steady flash, and brightest daytime flash. Steady flash is unique as it leaves the two side COB LEDs illuminated while flashing the center LED. All the other output modes operate the three COB LEDs in unison. Run-times for flash modes vary from 13:45 upto 19:00 (hr:min) with daytime flash the only mode with 150 lumen output. With its three COB LED design, the Cerberus has excellent visibility from any angle.

With the VLS feature, each mode can also be adjusted between the minimum and maximum settings pertaining to the mode. Constant modes are limited to 5-50 lumen while flash and steady flash are limited to 10-100 lumen. Daytime flash can be adjusted to the full range of 10-150 lumen which can push the runtime all the way to 140 hours in the lowest 10 lumen setting. Although the three COB LED design of the Cerberus improves side visibility, due to the narrow profile of the taillight side visibility is limited to around 270°. If you’re looking for better side visibility, larger lights like the NiteRider Bullet 200 should be considered. Also while the COB LED design looks more visually attractive and is visible during daytime, the beam is less focused than lights like the Bontrager Ion RT or Light and Motion Vya Switch which means the Cerberus isn’t as visible from longer distances. THE VERDICT Inspired by Greek mythology, the Moon Sport Cerberus uses a 150 lumen three COB LED design for daytime visibility and excellent side visibility. Retail PriceYou should also consider what environments you will be riding in and how much power you'll need (more on that in a minute). If you only ride on roads and never really stray onto unlit paths, you won't need to splash out on any front lights that are suitable for trail use. The sheer number of lumens isn't everything, as beam shapes have a big influence on how dazzling lights can be, but you're unlikely to need a front light with more than 800 lumens as the max setting if you only ride in town; even then, the highest setting will rarely need to be deployed. Pros: Best-in-class side visibility, fits any seatpost, aerodynamic shape, modes sensibly limited to five I bought on this recommendation. But for me it's pants. **using and navigating the lamp functions, once you’ve found the largely invisible buttons, is complex and annoying**

The light comes pre-set with five different light modes which you can easily switch between including two constant, two flashing, and a Day Flash mode which can keep you seen in direct sunlight. Also included is the VLS system which allows you to set any lumen you want – simply press and hold the VLS button. The USB-C has reliably charged inside 2 hours. There's a tiny LEDon the side of the light that will glow a steady purple when the battery level is low. Moon Cerberus rear light: value and conclusion A short press switches on the light and you can access 5 different modes, all of which are customisable thanks to the Variable Lumen System. Like so many lights, getting used to how the Cerberus works is paramount to getting the best out of it. Once you’ve got to grips with it, it can genuinely cater for any kind of riding. The rubber pad that sits against the seatpost conceals and waterproofs the USB port and does a good job: the force of the rubber band squeezing it to the seatpost ensures it's always tightly plugging the USB port. It's a shame it's removable, though, because in a house with children, any interesting-looking thing like that tends to disappear never to be seen again.

In terms of visibility, the Cerberusis great. Road users to yourrear, left and right get a decent blast of light in all modes. From a great distance it's not as visible as some others, but it casts its beam far enough for you to feel safe.

When your bike arrives final assembly will be required. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. Our step by step instructional video can be found here as well as our easy to follow instructions. The Cerberus light does the business at the far end of the bike with one rear LED and two side COB LED strips powered by a rechargeable 500mAh Li-Po battery. Again the flush side button is awkward to find in gloves, but it toggles through two solid and three flashing modes with a “press until you’re happy with the brightness”‘Variable Lumen System’ setting too. With the 50Lm max in the solid modes, 100Lm in the standard flash modes and a brutally bright 150Lm max in the Daylight Flash mode, no one has an excuse for not seeing you. In the Box Long Hold: activates the VLS mode and ramps the output from min to max mode slowly, release the button at the desired outputIn Germany, front lights have to be StVZO-compliant, which means they have a beam that is cut off to avoid dazzling other road users; these are often square as opposed to round. The legislation also requires that front lights must be on constant and not flashing, which means Germans are forbidden from using flashing or pulsing settings. The reasoning for this is because flashing or pulsing lights are distracting, according to the StVZO rules. And unlike most lights, the Cerberus is not just designed for a round-profile seatpost. The clamp has a clever system whereby two hinged wings and a flexible rubber pad make it fit both round-section and the sharpest bladed seatposts. You choose from three supplied rubber bands in the box to get the right fit, but any rubber band will do, such as the ones that come with Garmin stem mounts. Though most modern bike lights are very versatile, there are a couple of things to think about when purchasing a set of bike lights to make sure they're suitable and compatible with your bike. It’s nice not to be overwhelmed with modes. Moon have nailed this aspect with just two constant (high and low) and three flashing (1xday, 2xnight).Having them separated helps reduce scrolling too.
