About this deal

As long as you take your time, make sure nothing can move while cutting and more importantly, ensure that your measurements and markings are 100% accurate, there is no reason why you can’t cut one as well and the pro’s! How to do Find the Exact Angle of the Mitre Joint you Need to cut? Blades are moved in and out with a hand-operated ratchet mechanism. This allows the blades to bite through the moulding in small steps. A final shaving cut ensures perfect joins. Timber positioned on saw table ready for cutting Step 4 – Cut First Piece of Timber for First Side of Joint For larger boards, a length of batten clamped across the board and running on the top of the fence helps, especially if used in conjunction with horizontal featherboards.

The first job is to get an accurate template of the angle so that we can calculate it. For this we can use an angle finder or angled/sliding bevel (see our project here on how to use one).As ever with tools from Ryobi’s ONE+ range, portability is the name of the game. And its mitre saw features a carrying handle, which is useful because mitre saws are notoriously bulky. While it weighs just 7.9kg (excluding the battery), it feels tough and built to last. A mitre joint (often miter in American English) is a joint made by cutting each of two parts to be joined, across the main surface, usually at a 45° angle, to form a corner, usually to form a 90° angle, though it can comprise any angle greater than 0 degrees. It is called beveling when the angled cut is done on the side, although the resulting joint is still a mitre joint. [1] Now that we know exactly what a this joint is and how they are generally used, lets look at how to cut one and what tools can be used. See the “How to Measure and Mark a Mitre Joint Cut” section above to find out how to accurately measure this. Once the joint is totally full, put the gun to one side and then wet your finger and run it over the joint to smooth it off and remove any excess caulk.

Our range of compound mitre saws offers improved performance compared to standard mitre saws, with their ability to pivot left and right as well as tilt. This pivoting motion lets you achieve more complex cuts such as bevelled angles, while our models with built-in laser guides guarantee precision cuts. With your first piece of timber now cut, repeat the above steps for the remaining 45° angle that can then be used to form your full mitre joint. Once applied and cured, the filler can then be rubbed down flush with the timber and if it’s a good colour match then the repair should be pretty well disguised. Other Types of Timber Joint Essentially if you don’t measure accurately and mark the exact position that you cut needs to be made and then indeed make your cut in the correct place then your joint will be sloppy and look poor.Adjust the cutter as necessary and repeat until the two boards are level. Note that very slight adjustments of your fine adjuster will affect the fit of the two pieces so proceed in small steps. Keep the successful test pieces to use as setting pieces for future joints.

Mitre saws are designed to make clean and precise angled cuts through materials such as wood, laminate and metal, while allowing you to easily rotate the blade and change the cutting angle to suit you. Choose from our range of mitre saws from brands such as Einhell, DeWalt and Makita. If you are planning on painting your architrave or mitred timbers then it’s still possible to get a great looking finish.

As very general rule of thumb, if you are cutting internal mitre joints then the mitre should be cut on the front face of the timber but if you are cutting an external mitre joint then the cut should be made to the rear of the timber. With each position of the fence, make both cuts; flat cut first, followed by vertical cut. Make the final passes very light ones, to give the best possible finish. Purpose-built adjustable fence stops

Whether you’re looking for extendable sides that can be adjusted to suit your workpiece or a rolling stand that’s easy to manoeuvre, choose from our array of universal mitre saw stands. Providing you with even more flexibility, a mitre saw stand can cut long panels or pieces of timber without any difficulty. This will vary depending on the type of blade you’re using and the type of saw, so teh best way to find out is to cut down through a piece of waste timber and then measure it.
