Use Milton in the nursery to protect baby's things from harmful germs - 40 ml Milton and 1 litre water - Disinfect bibs, wipe down edges of cots, waterproof sheets and covers. Also soak plastic, wooden and rubber toys. SABS tested and approved. Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).

Ensure that all milk residues are removed from bottles and teats before you sterilise, otherwise the bottles won’t be fully sterile and bacteria could remain in the teat. Remember that milk is the ideal environment for bacteria to grow which is why special care must be taken when washing baby bottles. On ingestion - may cause temporary discomfort - if swallowed give large amounts of water, get medical attention.

Common Uses

Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health. Special care must be taken when cleaning all breastfeeding equipment. Use Milton Sterilising Fluid and Tablets to sterilise breastpump parts, nipple shields, breast shells and breast milk storage equipment. Both MRSA and Staphylococcus aureus are particularly vulnerable to disinfectants and the application of simple hygiene routines will do much to prevent their spread. Put baby's bottles and teats in the Milton solution. Make sure all items are completely covered by the solution. Remove any trapped air bubbles in the bottles. Place lid on and leave for at least 30 minutes. Milton protects kitchen cloths and surfaces from bacteria - 40 ml Milton and 1 litre water - Disinfect kitchen surface with a regular wipe down with, the solution. Also soak kitchen cloths as long as required. SABS tested and approved.

Milton makes your drinking water safe - 2 ml Milton and 1 litre water - Strain water through and clean material to remove debris - add Milton. Let water stand for 30 minutes. SABS tested and approved. Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.It is estimated that approximately 30% of the population are colonised (when bacteria are present, but not causing an infection) with Staphylococcus aureus - most often carried on the skin or in the nose of healthy people. It is a common cause of skin infections such as pimples & boils, which are normally treated without antibiotics. Approximately 1% of the population is colonised with the more lethal form, MRSA, which although linked to hospital deaths, has no ill effect on a healthy individual. Milton helps cut flowers last twice their normal life - 5 ml Milton and 1 litre water - Pour solution into vase. Not tested by SABS. Use the measuring well provided in the Milton sterilising unit to measure out Milton or use 2 capfuls of Milton to 4 L of cold water.

Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus - or MRSA as it is more commonly known, is a form of the staphylococcus bacteria that have become very resistant to antibiotics. To be able to protect against MRSA, it is imperative that as much as possible is understood about the bacteria and its activity. After each feed rinse out bottles and teats with cold water. Wash in soap and water using a bottle brush. Rinse well. Rub teats with salt inside and outside to remove milk deposit. Rinse well with cold water. Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication. Alternatively, if you're in hurry, you can use Milton Antibacterial Wipes to disinfect soothers, teething rings and small baby toys.

Once you have sterilised baby bottles, don’t leave them out for long periods of time on work surfaces before using them. As they stay out, bacteria will slowly contaminate them again. You can either leave them in a Milton Sterilising Solution, or in a closed Milton Combi Steriliser for 24 hours, or in your fridge (with the lid and teat on) at a minimum of 4°C temperature.
