European Top 100 Albums" (PDF). Music & Media. Vol.15, no.21. 23 May 1998. p.21. OCLC 29800226– via World Radio History. The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Rolling Stone. 22 September 2020. Archived from the original on 17 May 2023. I love D, he’s like a brother, but he’s an argumentative bastard, and he’ll run rings around people if they’re not switched on. And Mushroom, he’s a very smart guy, very intelligent, but he doesn’t have the dexterity that D has, so would get increasingly frustrated by D. Mushroom was very much a methodical person – he liked to plan things so he’d know what he was going to do when he got in the studio. He hated going into the studio and not knowing what he was going to do. Whereas D was very much “Let’s get in the studio and make some noise and see what happens…It was a creative mindset that used to frustrate the hell out of Mushroom.” On the 20th anniversary of Mezzanine 's release, the record was encoded into synthetic DNA—a first for an album. The project was in collaboration with TurboBeads Labs in Switzerland; the digital audio of the album was stored in the form of genetic information. The audio was then compressed using Opus, coded in DNA molecules—with 920,000 short DNA strands containing all the data—and then poured into 5,000 tiny glass beads. Heligoland is a world of sensations, something that takes your mind to different trips. If sometimes you can sing along with Robert, Martina, Horace or Hope, other times you just surf between Heaven and Hell, like with Guy, but always moving... always loosing your mind in timeless memories of a lost future. There have been some rumors online that the "gatefold" (cardboard case) release of this CD contained a surround mix. But, there is a lot of conflicting information saying that this album has never been released in 5.1. So, while I already owned a stereo version of the album, I bought this just to see. Sure enough, when putting this in my Oppo-205 player (which can play multiple different disc formats) it shows up as a CD but played the album in surround. I was rather surprised because if this works for most listeners I'm not sure why they aren't advertising it because a number of people want this recording in surround. Is there anyone else here that would love it if they released some sort of proper 24bit-96kHz+ digital format? By 'proper' I mean with its full dynamic range (not like their 2012 mix/master of Blue lines, where the dynamics are squashed into a limiter, conversely). I wish there was a DVD-audio version. Or it could be an SACD...hell even the 20bit HDCD, with peak extension, might fair better than the vinyl pressings, at least in some regard, seeing how this album seems to be a "challenge" for the vinyl format, as one commenter noted. The female vocals suffer from sibilance...which are one of the most indispensable qualities of this album—Liz Frazer and Sara Jay—but that's not to discredit the other vocalists...every part of this album is indispensable; absolute masterpiece, and the pinnacle of the trip-hop genre, imo. Or if you don't like the term trip-hop—as nearly none of the associated artists seem to lol—it's at least a quintessential of 90s music in the general realm of hip-hop/electronic music.

Tónlist – Ísland plötur og diskar". DV (in Icelandic). Vol.88, no.114. 22 May 1998. p.44. ISSN 1021-8254– via Timarit.is. So, this will be a bit of an odd review. As for the music itself, I think this is a great album. This album has an odd appeal and a unique sound, perfect for the right mood.Management [Tour Representation] – David Levy (5), Deluxe (23), ITB, Jeremy Joseph (2), Jonathan Levine (3), MPA (2), Metropolis Music (2), Raye Cosbert Mezzanine entered the UK Albums Chart at number one, [26] and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on 4 September 1998 and then double platinum on 22 July 2013. [27] However, it failed to share the same success in North America, peaking at number 60 on the Billboard 200 [28] and number 51 on the Canadian Albums Chart. [29] I will not bother you with more details about the edition, but please pay attention to the third vinyl where you can find the remixes. Years after the album was released, it was placed on several best-of lists in the UK and the United States. In 2000, Q magazine placed Mezzanine at number 15 on its list of "The 100 Greatest British Albums Ever". In 2013, it was placed at 215 on NME 's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". [1] In 2003, the album was ranked number 412 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of " The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time", [31] and while it was not included in the 2012 update of the list, it reentered the 2020 update ranked at number 383. [32] John Bush of AllMusic had positive words for the album's song "Inertia Creeps", saying it "could well be the highlight, another feature for just the core threesome. With eerie atmospherics, fuzz-tone guitars, and a wealth of effects, the song could well be the best production from the best team of producers the electronic world had ever seen." [16]

While I think they could have enhanced the great part of this album if done correctly, I think there was a reason the remixes weren't released after they were done for 20 years. It's because they aren't good.Published by Fiction Songs Limited.
