About this deal

This leaves Travelodge as the only occupant of the service area, and their oversized car park is used for makeshift HGV parking, seeing as no actual HGV facilities are provided. The majority of the land is becoming overgrown, with plenty of dilapidated Granada memorabilia. The official "Services" signage remains on the A511, but somebody has been along and covered up the fuel symbols. The signs still promise the restaurant that closed many years ago.

The association spokesperson said, “We sincerely wish the Parish Council every success in this new endeavour and TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT”.

In 2009, a private contractor filed for permission to build a brand new housing estate by London Road. A petition to prevent such housing being built took place, arguing that the local primary school, public transport and other services could not cope with the large influx of new residents. The petition to prevent the housing development failed despite the Borough Council refusing the application (it was approved on appeal to the Secretary of State), and the last few houses have recently been completed.

Facilities: The Centre offers community based activities such as a youth club, sawing and knitting club, and afternoon tea parties. We also offer hall hire at competitive prices for private functions (meetings, workshops, birthday parties), and have access facilities for disabled people.List of places UK England Leicestershire 52°41′16″N 1°16′39″W / 52.687802°N 1.277510°W / 52.687802; -1.277510 The Markfield Community Association has run the Markfield Community and Sports Centre for the last thirty years.

With the support of the Parish Council the Association will continue to run the Mayflower Clubs at the community centre and continue to co-ordinate the successful Markfield Good Neighbours Scheme. This partnership will also assist in our endeavours to support local health and well-being initiatives. Facilities: The centre offers meeting and conference facilities, equipment hire, catering facilities, access and facilities for people with disabilities and young children and an open space for exhibitions. The Little Chef and retail store both closed in 2008. The Little Chef became Costa, Moto's favourite brand at the time. This Costa soon closed, leaving a large empty space next to the Burger King unit. At this point the main entrance was moved from the side of the building to a new porch leading straight into the restaurant. Markfield has a long association with the quarrying industry and has a particular type of granite, microdiorite named after it. The granite stone (microdiorite) 'Markfieldite' is a very hard granite found in the local area and used in roadstone and railway construction. The former headquarters of Aggregate Industries (now under the Holcim company) was in Markfield and in the last few years a major expansion of the Bardon Hill Quarry into the parish of Markfield has begun creating a large extension which will expand the life of Bardon for another 40 years. [ citation needed]The Parish Council have said, “Your Parish Council is committed to the community we serve, we will be working hard to secure the future of your community centre and sports centre with our many partners”. Situated in the centre of a popular north Leicestershire village, the centre plays host to multiple wedding and birthday functions as well as a wide variety of social and sporting events andis home to the Markfield Youth Club. The association are delighted that the Parish Council is committed to keeping the Community Centre running for the use of our residents. We all believe that it is time to enhance our relationship and work in partnership to have in place and develop the Community Centre into a facility our village deserves.

Anyone using the parking facilities does so at their own risk. You are strongly advised to move your vehicle before 6pm. Get involved It offers disabled access and hearing loop systems for meetings. The centre is available for hire at evenings and weekends. Markfield has close links with the Methodist movement and according to a blue plaque on the church, its founder John Wesley paid 13 visits. He was allowed to preach in the parish church as he was friendly with the rector but crowds became so large, he would often preach on the village green. The parish church of St Michaels and all Angels is a grade II listed building. [5] There are two other churches, Holy Trinity Methodist chapel and the Congregational church but the original Methodist chapel (temperance hall) is no longer used. This change will not be easy but we can do it together in partnership and with the help of local agencies, community groups and of course, most importantly you our community. After many years of running Markfield Community and Sports Centre, the charity, Markfield Community Association has handed over the reins to Markfield Parish Council. In 1999, there was a plan to build another stand-alone restaurant in the car park. The proposal didn't seem to be thought out in detail, but could have held a combination of retail and takeaway food, probably under the Fresh Express name. In 2005 Moto stated that this was still a long-term ambition, although ultimately it didn't happen. The main building had a simple cross-shape with a Country Kitchen Restaurant, shop and toilets: simple facilities that catered for passing traffic and, thanks to the adjacent Granada Lodge, overnight stays. The restaurant was open all night and encouraged locals to visit it for Sunday lunch. The petrol station next door was branded Mobil, and there were dedicated parking areas for cars, HGVs and coaches. Facilities: Markfield is an historic building at the heart of Tottenham’s Markfield Park. The community hub can be hired for birthday parties, corporate away days, meetings, training sessions or exercise classes!
