To explain the Darksaber, we need to look at its antithesis, the Lightsaber. In Star Wars, there are few weapons as powerful as a Lightsaber. These weapons take considerable skill to wield and have the power to cut through most metals due to their incredible heat. There are several elements found throughout the galaxy that are capable of deflecting the weapon, but none so illustrious as the Beskar Armor developed by the Mandalorians to help them defeat their long-time nemeses, the Jedi. As season two of the Disney+ series played out, the weapon became even more important. Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, wrested the Darksaber from Moff Gideon during combat. He tried to give it Bo-Katan Kryze, but the person who wants to wield the weapon has to win it in combat. They can’t just receive it because someone doesn’t want it. And then the matter of rightful ownership continued in season three of The Mandalorian. A lot of major events have happened during this season of The Mandalorian. After our hero Din Djarin took a bath because he’s a dirty, filthy apostate (boo!) and rejoined the loving embrace of his fellow Mandalorian cultists, the season dedicated an entire episode to exploring the bureaucratic banality of evil and the “difficult” (not that difficult) question of whether all space Nazis are bad, and hey, even everyone’s favorite big furry Lasat star pilot from Star Wars Rebels, Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, showed up in the fifth episode! Everyone loves Zeb!
Maul used the weapon on them until General Grievous’ men arrived in Zanbar. Grievous’ soldiers had to flee as a result of Maul’s battle with him. When Maul boarded the dreadnought of Grievous during the fight on Ord Mantell, he once more utilized the Darksaber to control him.Despite being superior to Din Djarin in terms of Darksaber mastery, he nevertheless managed to lose his worthy darksaber during their epic battle. During the second season of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin vanquished Moff Gideon in a fight, unknowingly claiming the Darksaber for himself. Darksaber – In The Hands Of Din Djarin Vizsla then betrayed Maul and Opress and had them imprisoned. After their escape, Maul challenged Vizsla for leadership of Death Watch. Vizsla used the Darksaber against Maul. Despite putting up an impressive fight with the use of both the Darksaber and his armor's numerous weapons, Vizsla was disarmed, defeated, and summarily executed by Maul with the Darksaber. Maul then claimed the Darksaber and leadership of Death Watch, much to the chagrin of Vizsla's lieutenant, Nite Owl Bo-Katan Kryze, who refused to follow a leader who was not a Mandalorian despite him winning the fabled blade fairly in combat. [7] The blade of Maul The Darksaber was created for The Clone Wars with the guidance of George Lucas, Dave Filoni has revealed, who conceptualized a weapon that would be effective against a lightsaber. “George wrote that little speech [about the Darksaber] for Pre Vizsla,” Filoni recalled in a Star Wars Rebels behind-the-scenes featurette. “What I added to that was this idea that the Darksaber was Mandalorian-made. That it was something that the Mandalorians felt was part of their heritage would make it way more valuable.” We’re about halfway through this latest season of The Mandalorian, the sci-fi action-adventure series starring Pedro Pascal ( The Last of Us) as the eponymous bounty hunter Din Djarin, and so far it’s been, uh… well, it’s been pretty odd. So far we’ve seen Din taking part in what my colleague Joshua Rivera so succinctly described as a “ weird baptism” to redeem himself in the eyes of his Mandalorian brethren, while the third episode, “The Convert,” abruptly shifted focus to center on a story with some questionable takeaways as it relates to the politics and governance of the New Republic.
