About this deal

New College Cloisters: In the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry comes face to face with Malfoy who is sitting on a gigantic oak tree and where Malfoy was then turned into a ferret by Mad-Eye Moody. This particular tree nestles in the New College Cloisters. Note:As of summer 2023, there are no books on the shelves in the Long Room due to an ongoing conservation project. While we miss the books, we think the library is still pretty spectacular without them. Some handy info on the tour of the Long Room in Trinity College

Although I wish there was a Trinity College Harry Potter link, there isn’t. The Long Room just resembles the library used in the filming of the Harry Potter movies. While there is plenty of accommodation dotted around Oxford, you can actually stay in many Oxford University colleges outside of term-time for a real Oxford experience (without all the boring hard work). The tour of the Trinity College Library in Dublin is well worth doing (hit play on the video above and you’ll get a good idea why). As the students often use the library to progress in their academics, it is likely there is at least one section of books concerned with every subject taught at Hogwarts. If you want to discover more interesting facts and secret stories about Harry Potter in Oxford, book a private Harry Potter Highlights Walking Tour.

The most famous book here is obviously the Book of Kells but perhaps of more recent importance is one of the last remaining copies of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic. You know the scene where Harry is wearing the invisibility cloak and looking for information in the restricted section of Hogwarts Library? Yep, you guessed it – that’s the Duke Humphrey’s Library. And there we are, our self-guided Harry Potter walk in Oxford. We hope you have even a smidge of the fun following the tour that we did researching and writing it. What a discovery – the gloomily quiet cloisters are one of my new secret spots in Oxford. That’s great – but where do they pop up in Harry Potter? The bottom of the stairs are used in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as the spot where Harry and Ron are collared by Argus Filch after their escapade with the flying car, and also where Harry meets Tom Riddle.

Hogwarts Library

Walk through the historic University City of Oxford and find the famous film locations inside the colleges that were featured in many of the early Harry Potter movies and learn about the places across the city that inspired the movies.
