About this deal

We don't really get even a hint of fallen city/country/time or big disastrous past until the very, very end. And even then, it’s just a hint. It could go a different way. So I’m going with paranormal with a sci-fi twist for now. So, Ava is a character I feel is completely relatable. At least to me she was. She felt like an outsider around others, in both the human and fae realm. To me, she doesn't really know where she belongs and honestly? COMPLETELY RELATABLE! I liked how throughout the book, we were trying to figure out Ava's story alongside her. I wouldn't say I saw a lot of the plot points coming, because I was equally screaming "did that really just happen?" at my phone, as well as "I KNEW IT!" Overall, as a character, I truly adored Ava and I cannot wait to see how her development flows after that ending! I’m so thankful I got early access to this book. I cannot wait to have a physical copy of this when it releases this October. Thank you SO MUCH for writing this incredible story. I am SO EXCITED for the next one!! I absolutely love stories about Fae and this one really swept me up and carried me away. When I read the synopsis I knew that this would be a book that I definitely meshed with. In answer to a question you asked me not a long ago, a question I didn’t answer at the time… it is worth it. Love is a perilous dance too, you see. And if we stop dancing, we’ll die.

Out of all the characters I only liked Aeron who was guarding Ava and Shalini. He was the only one with a spark. Torin, our MMC is bland. Ava, our FMC is also bland. Shalini, the best friend to Ava, is simply annoying. All in all, a great read that I highly recommend if you like young adult fantasy. I am eagerly waiting for Thorns. Most of the time fear was just like a rat in my belly, gnawing and gnawing a hole in the same place day after day whenever I let it. But now the rat had turned into a lion, and it was tearing me apart from the inside out. I'm happy Shalini was part of the book. Even though Torion and Ava have good banter, Shalini is the comic relief you don't know you need until she's spewing her (at times rather impure) thoughts. It is definitely a depressing read, especially when she finally meets another human, a boy her age called Flynn, only to be taken from him straight to the evil genious himself, the Good Lord John. It was a bizarre read showing that although the war was against the robots, it was humans who created the incredibly intelligent robots to begin with. Unfortunately for them, the robots were too intelligent and soon enough realised that they were superior so no longer had use for the humans. I found it a little scary because technology is becoming increasingly advanced so the story doesn’t seem that far off a potential reality. But let’s not go down that road for now.If you love romantasy books, this one is for you. If you love fae related books, this one is for you. If you love a heroine who knows she is not perfect and owns her flaws, this book is for you. If you love a hero that says things that will make your knees go weak, this is ALSO FOR YOU! Hopefully i will get some answers to these questions on the next book, which i'm going to start reading next!

I wouldn’t necessarily call this a flaw for me, since I loved the book as is. However, for those looking for dystopian/post apocalyptic/end of the world as we know it feeling or atmosphere, you aren’t going to find it here. As it is in this book, our main setting country is medieval, maybe colonial, like with looming threat of an industrialized country and the paranormal monsters fluttering in between. But in terms of having a voice, I felt that voice was better directed at things that I knew personally. And those things often happen to be addiction and alcoholism and grief and trauma. Attention Book Bloggers ~ If you are interested in interviewing me or reviewing one of my books, send me a message. I'd love to hear from you! (Please note: I am currently not able to fulfill most requests for print copies at this time, but you can always ask. However, I am ALWAYS able and happy to provide e-copies or PDFs of my books in exchange for an honest review.) The approached technique is one of shadow and of diluting the contours, the characters being rarely described, having only suggested characteristics. Curiously, Strauch reads a novel of Henry James throughout the whole narrative, though the title of this book is not revealed. I'm still trying to perceive the significance of this ingredient, this reminded me of Magritte's " La Reproduction Interdite " paint, where a book looks a seemingly minor detail . F: The book ends on a beautiful note: you telling your younger self that his story has a happy ending...

Halliwell-Horner's writing is engaging, fast paced and electric. I really liked Rosie and was rooting for her. There are some very unlikeable characters that really kept the plot twisting, but as with any good story, I love to love a baddie! As expected there is a beautiful message of inner power. F: The autobiographies of successful people tend to focus on their success. Yet you’ve written two autobiographical books and neither of them really cover that period. Is that deliberate? Frost’s love for her pet and her determination to make him better was sweet. Even when she’s starving, her pet has next to no hope of survival, she refuses to leave him behind. At times her love for her pet surpasses the love for her ‘ghost’ father, which is sad but made sense because her pet was the only thing around real enough to merit her emotional investment (until Flynn arrives). Flynn also has a similar, sad story. But unlike Frost, he hasn’t been sheltered his entire life from the cruelty of the robots. He’s experienced it first hand and as a result has had to fight to survive on his own from a very young age. The title is quite appropriate, from my point of view suggesting the coldness felt in the context of appreciating human existence, a pessimism that can gain the reader, or, if not, will intrigue him, at least. But will not leave him indifferent. NF: Totally. Often there’s a physical barrier between you when you’re in the kitchen. In our kitchen, we’ve got a little island where the sink is and I stand behind that; I do my prep on that and people stand on the other side. So physically there’s a space. A defendable position.NF: Yeah, I would suggest that my love for my children and for my partner was something that potentially saved my life. It was the catalyst and the thing that let me try and think of something nice. It was a light in a really shit dark room that I was drawn towards. And it was very clear that that was absolutely worth living for. This first book in The Frost Chronicles feels like one big long introduction. We're placed in a notably eerie, well built world in which we're portrayed an isolated village surrounded by deep forests where deadly creatures come out at night. It's not safe to go out once the sun has set - ever. This gloomy setting is made worse by the fact that they unable to leave their town, because beyond the forest are the Farthers - vicious humans living in a cruel advanced society. The brilliant detailing skillfully describes the colourless, depressing state of their world, as well as how their community is managed with quotas and rations. It's fascinating and well thought-out, getting me to feel the cold, the hopelessness, the uneasiness. Though well built, the book is missing electricity. I easily felt the hardships, but I can't say I was very perturbed by the events that occurred in the story. I kept waiting for the big moment when I would feel emotionally invested, the moment when things go from story building, to suspenseful and thrilling - neither came in full force. I wouldn't call the suspense nonexistent, it just wasn't to the depth I was hoping for. This isn't helped by the slow pacing; three quarters of the book in, I was still wondering of the plot's intention. Without spoiling the rest, I will say it’s hilarious and such a fun journey. I loved that the fae and humans coexisted and the humans believed the fae were basically these incredible celebrity/gods that they adored and fangirled over. I LOVED the reality show idea of filming the competition.

I've been making up stories since I was five years old, and now I'm thrilled to be able to do it as a full-time job. I have an obsession with dark fantasy, dystopian futures, and Pride and Prejudice-style love stories full of witty banter and sizzling, unspoken feelings. When I'm not writing, I'm creating digital art, reading funny blogs, or watching my favorite shows (which include TVD and BSG). I live with my geeky husband and our two bad cats in Atlanta, GA. In Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen we meet our titular protagonist (Rosie), who is stumbling through school. Intelligent, but not well liked she struggles to navigate her way through high school. One day she is pulled out of class to be told that her mother has passed away and she is now orphaned. Rosie is sent to an elite school on a mysterious island as per her late mother's instructions.

But I was very proud that I got to meet him. He started off like me working as a line cook – I worked in a Mexican restaurant, he was in a more high end French place – but he was a normal human who had something to say and people loved him. People loved him because he was honest and funny and spoke his truth.
