About this deal

Dogs:No adverse effects were observed in target animal safety studies in 8 week old puppies, growing dogs and dogs weighing about 2 kg treated once at five times the recommended dose. The risk of experiencing adverse effects may however increase when overdosing, so animals should always be treated with the correct pipette size according to bodyweight. Ferrets: One pipette of 0.5 ml per ferret corresponding to a dose of 50 mg for fipronil and 60 mg for (S)-methoprene per ferret, by topical application to the skin. The minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks. Bathing/immersion in water within 2 days after application of the product and more frequent bathing than once a week should be avoided, as no study has been performed to investigate how this affects the efficacy of the product. Emollient shampoos can be used prior to treatment, but reduce the duration of protection against fleas to approximately 5 weeks when used weekly after application of the product. Weekly bathing with a 2% chlorhexidine medicated shampoo did not affect efficacy against fleas during a 6 week long study. With a range of flea treatments available, you have a choice to make. Will your canine fare better with a flea collar, a spot-on treatment, a chewable tablet or a chemical-free shampoo? As every dog’s behaviour and lifestyle is different, it’s worth trialling a few different methods to find one that works best for you both.

FRONTLINE Spot On is a veterinary medicine with a robustsafety profile. It can be applied to dogs from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 2 kg. It can also be used in pregnancy and on nursing bitches. FRONTLINE Plus® is a veterinary medicine with a robust safety profile. It can be applied to cats from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 1 kg and ferrets from 6 months of age. It can also be used on cats in pregnancy. Dogs: By topical application to the skin. In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks. Like spot-on flea treatments, the strength of Bravecto depends on the size and weight of your dog: a 250mg chew for small dogs (4.5-10kg), a 500mg chew for medium dogs (10-20kg) and a 1,000mg chew for large dogs (20-40kg). The chew tastes like pork (apparently!) and will still administer the same results if it’s crumbled up into your dog’s food. FRONTLINE Spot On is a veterinary medicine witha robust safety profile. It can be applied to cats from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 1 kg. It can also be used in pregnancy and on nursing queens.Bathing/shampooing/water exposure does not affect the efficacy of the product as long as it does not occur more than once a week. FRONTLINE Plus® is a veterinary medicine with a robust safety profile. It can be applied to dogs from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 2 kg. It can also be used in pregnant and lactating bitches. Cats:The product can be used in cats during pregnancy, for treatment during the lactating period see 'Special precautions for use in animals'. Fleas from pets often infest the animal's basket, bedding and regular resting areas such as carpets and soft furnishings which should be treated, in case of massive infestation and at the beginning of the control measures, with a suitable insecticide and vacuumed regularly.

Cats: One pipette of 0.5 ml per cat, corresponding to a minimum recommended dose of 5 mg/kg for fipronil and 6 mg/kg for (S)-methoprene, by topical application to the skin. In the absence of safety studies, the minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks. Virbac doesn’t have a scent and won’t leave any residue behind, so you won’t notice it after use. One aerosol contains 500ml of spray, which should be sufficient to cover a three-bedroom home. Make sure to keep all pets out of the treated rooms for at least two hours until the Virbac spray dries, as the active ingredient, permethrin, can be toxic to cats. Oral flea treatments such as tablets and chews are great for treat-loving dogs – as long as you can convince them that a flea chew is something tasty, of course. These treatments are absorbed into the bloodstream, meaning a flea is only killed when it bites your dog and ingests the active ingredient. You only need to administer an oral flea treatment every three to four months, and it often contains a deworming treatment, too.Do not use in rabbits as adverse drug reactions, even mortality, could occur. In absence of studies, the use of the product is not recommended in non-target species.

If your cat is unwell, please see your vet for advice before you apply a flea treatment. frontline Spot On for catsis not suitable for use on rabbits. Flea Spray – Spot-on treatments aren’t always the best option. They can be strong and because they are applied to a single area, can lead to irritation or allergic reaction. Standard flea sprays can be made from the same chemical as a spot on, but they are sprayed on the dog to kill off adult fleas and eggs. If you’re concerned about chemicals, particularly for dogs with sensitive skin or health issues, then a natural flea treatment such as Progroom shampoo could be a good option. A formula of colloidal oatmeal combined with essential oils, minerals, aloe vera and fatty acids moisturises skin, soothes itchy or hot patches, detangles matted fur, and leaves your dog’s coat shiny and healthy.Bathing/shampooing/water exposure does not affect the efficacy of the product as long as it doesn’t occur more than once a week. Ferrets:Laboratory studies in cats have not produced any evidence of teratogenic, foetotoxic or maternotoxic effects. The safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established in ferrets during pregnancy and lactation. Use only according to the risk-benefit assessment by the responsible veterinarian.

Key features – Type: Aerosol spray; Amount: One can; Volume: 500ml; Active ingredient: Permethrin; Suitable for: N/A (not for use on dogs) Dogs:In the absence of available data, the product should not be used on puppies less than 8 weeks old and/or weighing less than 2 kg.Shampoo – Shampoo can do a good job of killing some fleas on a dog’s fur and it can sympathetically soothe any itching and pain caused by flea bites. However, shampoo is not usually the most effective solution when used on its own and it needs to be combined with another topical solution to get the best results. It’s also important to consider which method will suit your cat’s temperament best. “Choose whatever will be the least stress for you both,” Reay says. “If your pet easily takes tablets in food, then choose those, otherwise go for a spot on and use food or treats as a distraction while it’s applied. The calmer you are, the more you’ll help to reassure your pet.”
