The strings on the left sit in the middle of the saddle (where they should be), but the strings on the right have slid off-center and sit to the left. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.
The DST-200 I reviewed has a nice tight fit on both sides. This should be expected with any guitar made today as CNC manufacturing has significantly improved the quality of budget and mid-level guitars (many high-end guitars are still handmade). The fretboard was made from an unidentified wood, which we think was likely pau ferro or Indian laurel. It was quite dry, but that would be easily remedied with some conditioning oil. We found that the fretwork was actually quite well executed. The edges weren’t perfect, but there was nothing sharp enough to cause discomfort or injury. Donner DST-200 is an amazing beginner guitar for music enthusiasts who want to step into the journey of learning how to play guitar. Its high versatility, great sonic performance, and comfort in the hand make it an ideal guitar to start learning. I have the Ice Blue color model, which looks pretty special as it is a blend of light blue and metallic colors. The color changes slightly with the light and appears gray or light blue depending on where you are.Because it comes with everything you need right in the box, it’s really a plug and play set, which also makes it a good option if you’re planning to gift it to somebody else. Finally, another con, a bit rough fret edges below the 11th fret I already mentioned in the “Hardware”-section. Again, this didn’t bother me too much, but it’s still something that needs to be pointed out and takes a bit out of the playability score too. This means if you attach the included tremolo arm (shown below), you can push it down and it will lower the pitch of the notes you play.
Plastic nuts aren’t ideal for tone or durability, but if you take care of your guitar and are careful when restringing it, you shouldn’t have any issues such as wearing down the string slots. Mirroring what you’d find on similarly priced models from Squier, it came with a solid poplar body, which we found to be light weight, and a close match to the shape and ergonomics of a Stratocaster. Yamaha is another great brand to search for cost-effective beginner Strat-style electric guitars. Its Pacifica Series PAC112J model is one of the best-selling beginner guitars thanks to its high-quality construction and parts, basic design, good sound, and great price.Apart from these two issues, I couldn’t find any problems or quality concerns. When you consider the price of this guitar, that’s impressive. Entry-level or budget electric guitars are usually hit-or-miss in terms of quality. Some manufacturers consistently produce bad-quality guitars, while others produce cheap guitars that easily stand up against entry-level guitars from big-name brands. It should also be noted that the DST-152 is one step up from Donner’s mega-budget DST-100 strat style guitar, and sits below their Seeker series strat, the DST-400, which we will be reviewing at a later date. Donner electric guitars are solid beginner and budget guitars. They offer great value, often come with accessories, are usually smooth playing, and sound good.
