Anxiety is a natural, emotional response to a potentially harmful stimulus (also known as a stressor). Fear inducing stimuli initiate two pathways within the brain, these pathways (discovered by Joseph LeDoux) are sometimes referred to as the ‘High Road’ and the ‘Low Road’. Both adrenaline and noradrenaline are neurotransmitters. Adverse effects of amnesic and anxiolytic drugs include; ataxia, paradoxical hyperexcitability, and disinhibition.
