About this deal

Ledlenser products are a great example of how a products lumen rating can be a little misleading. You see, the thing with LED torches is that the quality of the actual LEDs is not always equal, and there are other factors to consider such as lenses and reflectors that play a big part in how the torch performs. The iGadgitz Xtra LED torch is compact and measures just 16.8 x 6.8 x 4.8 cm. It’s also very light and comes in at just over 180 grams, so it’s perfect for travelling with. The hand crank on the other hand worked really well. It has a reassuring level of resistance when turning it so it actually feels like it’s doing something, and after turning for a few minutes it’ll give you decent amount of operating time in return. If the light starts to dim, simply crank it up some more. When the makers claim that this torch has a 300 metre range on the highest setting, they aren’t exaggerating. I could clearly see the beam illuminating trees far, far off in the distance and the brightness level was outstanding. Even the 40 lumen setting had a range of about 90-100 metres. Let me be perfectly clear: I do not recommend the LC90 for any kind of tactical, self-defense, law enforcement or military use.

The 900 lumens Cree LED used in the Anker LC90 can sweep over an impressive 200 meters (660 feet) length when set to high-beam. This isn’t as bright as our other LED torches, but that is to be expected and probably an intentional design decision to save battery life. Still, for emergency situations it will give you enough light to see what you are doing or where you’re going and you don’t have to worry about the battery going dead. Below we have highlighted a few of these aspects so you can better make up your own mind about which model suits you. Lumen measurement Anker designed the switch to advance the mode by one position with each momentary press made within two seconds of each other. This creates a problem if you are clearing an area and flashing the light on and off – the light literally begins to cycle through the different modes. In general terms, FL1 Standards say that runtime is measured as the total time from the peak output when the light is first turned on with a fresh battery to the point where light output drops to 10% of the original output. This means that even if a company is testing to the FL1 standard, it is reporting an 89% reduction in light output as part of its runtime.

Maglite RL1019 MagCharger LED Rechargeable System: This flashlight, which I also tested, has almost 250 more lumens, but it’s also significantly more expensive. While the compact size of the Anker Bolder LC40 might make it easy to misplace, the Maglite’s rechargeable system includes a charging mount which can be attached to a wall, so you’ll never search for a flashlight again. The beam can be focused in the same way as the LE model, by extending or retracting the front part of the torch, and with the Anker you have five different light modes to choose from. Maglite torches have been used by police, the armed forces, and emergency services for years, in countries all over the world, particularly in the USA where the company is based. This quality of this LED torch is simply excellent and well worth the extra fifteen pounds or so you pay over the LE model. The anodised aluminium body is both lightweight and very strong and the whole product just has a premium feel to it.Move between the modes by half pressing power button, release and half press again, repeat until you get to the required mode then fully press the button. SUPER-BRIGHT: 900-lumen (max) Cree LED sweeps bright light over the length of about two football fields (660 ft / 200 m) and reaches nearly 1000 ft. Fully zoomable from wide to narrow beam. Features 5 adaptable settings: High / Medium / Low / Strobe / SOS. The new LC40 is the “must have” for leaving the house, the LC130 is the “must have” for in the house, the LC90 original is a good general-purpose torch which didn’t really need doubling the battery life, after all you could just unscrew and swap the 18650, it did last all night anyway on its dimmest setting. Keep an eye out for the run time and charging times with any rechargeable model and be aware that what is often featured in advertising is the battery life on the lowest settings. Size and weight

The quality of the light you get from a Ledlenser LED torch has to be seen side by side with its competitors to really see the difference, but suffice to say it beats them all hands down in my opinion. If there’s a brand that matches Maglite in the premium LED torch category, it is definitely Ledlenser. This company have an incredible range of LED torches that are used by professionals worldwide, including the UK Police. With a brightness rating of 900 lumens, this little bad boy can light up a wide arc around you or be focused into a beam that can shine for miles (not literally, but around 150-200 metres and still be bright).
