About this deal

We can’t pretend that the LED color tube segment isn’t a crowded place with the likes of Astera, Quasar Science, Nanlite, and others all vying for market position. You can read my recent review of the Quasar Science Rainbow and Double Rainbow fixtures here. TV, Candle, Fire, Strobe, Explosion, Faulty Bulb, Pulsing, Welding, Cop Car, Color chase, Party Lights, Fireworks

Introducing the all-new Amaran T2c 2-foot full-color LED tube light! This innovative light features 20W of RGBWW output, resulting in over 475 lux at 1 meter (5600K), adjustable color temperature from 2500K to 7500K, green- magenta tunability, and creative color control for a range of looks and lighting effects. With a CRI of 95+, TLCI of 98+, and Sidus Link App compatibility the T2c is ideal for content creators, filmmakers, and photographers alike. The 3/8 16″ is also an Arri Accessory tap with two-pin positions on each side, preventing twisting. A 1/4 20″ is on both sides of the 3/8 16″ taps. I like this design a lot. You have several options to mount the tubes without using a proprietary system, but amaran stated they will have mounting systems for the tube lights soon. The simplest would be the Nato option, as you can slide the clamp in any position that works for you. The other use for tube lights is as practicals or set design. When used this way, you can create fun lighting looks with multiple colors and patterns. The amount of control is dependent on the fixture’s capabilities. The 2′ T2c and 4′ T4c can be controlled with the Sidus link and with a new USB-C DMX input. You can also attach a tool-less, collapsible 45° light control grid* to the tube to limit spill light and enhance their lighting design, or leave the tube bare with its over 180° aperture, giving you more coverage in your shot design. On each end are 3/8 16″ taps, and the battery also has a 3/8 16″ tap. So amaran really solved the mounting problem with simple solutions and will have more soon. Nice work! I would like to see some NATO baby pins. That would work great with grip heads, plus no twisting loose! Unique and friendly mounting solutions. Rig the amaran T2c to existing camera and grip accessories with ease using a wide range of mounting options, including NATO rail, 1/4-20in, and 3/8-16in with Arri-style locating pins. As you would expect, the output of the T4c is higher than the T2c. You would expect the output of a tube that is twice the size would have twice the output, but the T4c only has around 62% more output at 5600K than the T2c. When using the 77Wh Battery Grip amaran states that the output is consistent. They also state that this applies to the HSI mode as well. Output in HSI Mode Using AC HSI amaran has Tube Grids for the T2c and T4c tube lights. These will be available soon. They are designed to focus the light and prevent spill. Very handy. The best way to control the T2c and T4c is with the Sidus Link app. It’s free for iPhone and will give you all the options for the fixture. Using the on-board menu is a bit difficult when the tube is mounted especially if it’s tight and you can’t get behind the fixture. With the Sidus Link, I can make all the changes and more. Output A plastic build, heavy externally mounted battery, and limited DMX options can’t detract from the wealth of available mounting points, fantastic kelvin scores, and the fact that you have a mountable battery, to begin with. The edge-to-edge design of the T4c and the T2c make these practical and usable fixtures worthy entries for amaran and Aputure into the tube segment. Price and availability The CRI and TLCI are two of the most important and the first consideration when choosing a lighting device. This helps to determine what you can achieve with the light and the overall quality of light. Similarities, both the two series of Godox brand and the Aputure brand have excellent colour rendition capabilities of over 96 and the CRI of above 98. These features give the photographers the opportunity to diverse lighting setups to represent impressive performance. It also highly explored creativity and creates memorable magic moments with high efficiency. So, if you are looking for television production, broadcast, video footage or photographs, the Godox TL tube light series and the Aputure are giving the best of both worlds with not much difference in the quality of light. Fx Special Effect For now, you can get creative with some off-the-shelf options like the Kondor Blue Cine Magic Arm with ball heads that can be swapped out. The Arri Accesary and Nato clamp work great. I like these because they don’t twist. Another option is adding a clamp to the end. The CRI results were identical with the T2c and I saw a 40% hit to output with the 2ft version when compared to the 4ft version. Final thoughtsThese Film Devices MG-88 rubber-based magnets are handy and also can be used with different mounts since they have 1/4 20″ and 3/8 16″ taps. If you like grip gear, I think you can find a way to mount these tubes for your needs. Tube Grid The extended CRI scores are solid, and the Kelvin color temperature accuracy was also pretty good. The light didn’t have any big green or magenta shifts. As you can see, the output varies quite dramatically depending on the color you have chosen. This is something you need to be aware of. RGBWW Color Accuracy For DMX, it uses a USB-C connection that requires a 5-Pin DMX512 In & Out Adapter Cable that is sold separately. Sidus Link

Featuring a wide range of mounting options, including NATO rail, 1⁄4-20in threads, and 3/8-16in threads with Arri-Style locating pins, you will be able to mount the T2c with ease. And its included 77Wh swappable battery allows you to power your light anywhere without having to worry about outlets or additional cables. Built-in Lighting FX: Club Lights, Paparazzi, Lightning, TV,Candle, Fire, Strobe, Explosion, Faulty Bulb, Pulsing, Welding,Cop Car, Colour Chase, Party Lights, Fireworks In this article, we’ll find out more about the different types of the two most common LED tube lights: the Godox TL vs the Aputure Amaran. Why do you need tube lights? My favorite is the NATO clamp, and I would take the version with a 3/8 16″ tap and use some Loctite to make it permanent so it won’t twist loose. It’s fairly cheap to make, and it can be used with a grip head. Again, you have a lot of options. You just have to get creative and adapt to the situation you want to use the tube lights for. The TL series tube lights are designed to give users a better experience with an incredibly compact design. As the name implies, the TL30 come with 30cm-long tube lights weighing just under 300 grams. The TL30 weighs about two smartphones that you could barely feel in the bag. In fact, it becomes a perfect choice for travelling studios, working with such a portable will be a liberating experience. Next, the tube TL60 measures 29.5’’ in length (around 75cm) and 1.9’’ in diameter with only a weight of 1.6 pounds. The last one also the longest one in the TL series is TL120 with around 117cm and a weight of 2.8 lbs. In fact, it makes three of them easy to mount or even used handheld. When compared to the Godox TL series, the Aputure Amaran series have a few different control methods such as USB-C to 5-Pin DMX512 In & out adapter cable. But also similar to the Godox TL series by the ability to control by on-board, sides link App, DMX via. By controlling DMX with a separately available USB-C to 5-Pin DMX512 in and out adapter cable, the Amaran series have professional-level control to an individual or groups of lights. In more detail, the Amaran T2C is made for photographers who need a 2’ linear lighting solution with battery operability. This feature is suitable for in camera practicals or as an accent light when shooting people or products. Internal Lithium Battery The 2′ T2c is rated at 20W with a 25W max power draw, and the 4′ is 40W with a 50W max power draw. Below are the output figures at a few different Kelvin settings. All tests were performed with a Sekonic C-700-U SpectroMaster. Kelvin The closest direct competition arguably comes from Nanlite, which makes a range of PavoTubes that are priced around the same amount as these new amaran offerings.
