Omdat hij is ontworpen met veel schuim en een brede basis, is deze schoen ook geschikt voor de zwaardere hardloper die veel demping nodig heeft. The Adistar was designed for the long, slow run but I would even choose the Ultraboost over the Adistar because Boost is softer and has more energy return than Repetitor. THOMAS: I like the Ultraboost, but as lighter weight foams came out, Adidas got blasted for the weight. The Ultraboost was in the mid 11 oz. range. As Adidas starts to retire Boost in the performance line, you would think they would look for ways to make their foams lighter and more responsive like their competitors. Unfortunately, the Adistar is even heavier than the Ultraboost at 12 oz. (341 g.) for a size 10.5. That is an insane weight for a trainer these days. Here is the weird thing: usually, I would dismiss a shoe this heavy out of hand, but the experience of running in the shoe was so smooth that I didn’t notice the extreme weight. I did my miles before I put the shoes on the scale. I would have guessed they were high 10 to low 11 oz. shoes.

The Adidas Adistar is designed for slower runs when you want to run far, but you’re also not in a rush. And let’s face it, even if you’re training for a half marathon, most of your runs should be well under race pace, building the mileage and making sure your muscles and joints are used to the sustained moderate effort that is long-distance running.

The Bad

Waarom zou je dan de Adistar CS boven de Adistar verkiezen? Tja, dat zou je moeten doen als je een hardloopschoen wilt die wat vloeiender en comfortabeler aanvoelt, en als je het niet erg vindt dat hij iets meer kost dan de oorspronkelijke Adistar. The ride feels disjointed and jarring because you transition straight from a firm heel, to a softer midfoot and forefoot. With most Hokas and even the Adios Pro/Prime X you get consistent, smooth transitions from heel to toe. It was the perfect trainer for me because I used to be a severe outer lateral heel striker and the Adistar had a Formotion decoupled lateral heel which softened heel strikes and made transitions smoother. The first time I saw the ADIDAS Adistar, I thought it looked somewhat ’chunky’ ud. You see a lot of shoes that take up a lot of space these days but I was quite sceptical if it would work for a running shoe. As mentioned earlier the heel is quite a lot bigger than you normally see in running shoes and the shoe is generally fairly wide. Het gewicht van de schoen geeft ook aan dat hij zeer geschikt is voor zeer lange runs. Ik heb maat US 9 (41 ⅓) en hij weegt 320 gr. Voor mij voelt hij echter helemaal niet zo zwaar. In vergelijking tot de ADIDAS Ultraboost 22 die maar 16 gr. Minder weegt, voelt hij veel lichter.

The trade-off for such incredible breathability and stretchiness is, of course, durability. The upper didn't stand a chance against our Dremel. We discovered that the 3.3-mm rubber is super durable, easily withstanding wear and tear for countless miles on the road.

Not everything is new …

ADIDAS heeft een bovenkant ontworpen met het Cage-fit systeem aan de binnenkant met een zacht maar stevig materiaal dat de bescherming en pasvorm biedt die je nodig hebt tijdens je lange runs. Het is gemaakt met een high-performance garen wat minstens 50% Parley Ocean Plastic bevat, wat een plastic afval verzameld uit de natuur is. De andere 50% is gemaakt van gerecycled polyester. Voor wie zijn deze hardloopschoenen geschikt? Tja, ze zijn zowat voor iedereen die een hardloopschoen wil die hij gebruiken kan voor de lange, ontspannen hardlooptochten. Beide hardloopschoenen hebben een zekere mate van stabiliteitsregeling, zodat ze beide gebruikt kunnen worden door hardlopers die de voorkeur geven aan pronatie hardloopschoenen. Ik heb de voorkeur aan neutrale hardloopschoenen, en ik denk eigenlijk dat beide Adistar modellen ook door neutrale hardlopers gebruikt kunnen worden. Bovendien zijn beide hardloopschoenen ideaal voor zwaardere hardlopers, omdat het schuim niet zo meegevend is als bij veel andere modellen, en dus niet even gemakkelijk wordt samengedrukt. The Adistar Boost franchise was eventually replaced by other Adidas light stability trainers such as the Sequence Boost and the Ultraboost ST but they felt clunky compared to the nimble, versatile Adistar Boost.

Slow runs above 5 minutes 30 per kilometre are what the Adistar does best. Anything faster and it feels too sluggish. I only use it for very easy and recovery runs so versatility is low. Lessening impact on the environment, 50% recycled polyester and 50% recycled sea plastic are used in the upper. Better than most brands, but still not enough. Now, almost a decade later, the Adistar has been reincarnated. It no longer has a firmer medial EVA post or a Formotion heel wedge. Boost has also been replaced by brand new foams called Repetitor and Repetitor+.

Finally, Adidas polishes off the Adistar with a grippy layer of Continental rubber. Besides traction, the rubber will give you lots of durable miles. After 30 miles in the shoe, I could wipe them off, and the rubber would look unworn. The firmer Repetitor + (15% recycled foam) is only in the heel, with the softer Repetitor foam in the midfoot and forefoot. The shoe is designed to stabilise your heel when it strikes the ground and then have a softer forefoot push off. De eerste keer dat ik de ADIDAS Adistar zag, vond ik hem er ietwat grof uitzien. Je ziet tegenwoordig veel schoenen die veel ruimte innemen, maar ik was sceptisch of dit zou werken voor een hardloopschoen. Zoals eerder vermeld, is de hiel een stuk groter dan wat je normaal gesproken ziet bij hardloopschoenen en de schoen is over het algemeen vrij wijd. When you as a runner go through quite a lot of running shoes and running gear, its amazing to see that some of the big companies in the sports market recognize their role in the climate-discussion - and act according to it. It provides you with a better conscience when you buy their products and its clearly something that I will keep an eye on next time I am going to buy a pair of running shoes.
