About this deal

I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of a proper introduction,” Adam said, cutting the lecture short. As Adam grows more attuned to the frequencies of the deep sea and less so to the people around him, Ken and Abby each plan the elaborate gifts they will present to their father on his birthday, jostling for primacy in this small family unit. She founded the literary magazine, “Zoetrope: All-Story” with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, was an acquiring editor at HMH Books and served as a judge for the National Book Award. In the places where Adam or Ken does or says something shitty about women, it is clear that neither Brodeur nor Little Monsters agrees with the statement, but neither are these statements made to frame the men as unambiguously villainous.

Howl with laughter with Little Monsters, the monstrously funny picture book from David Walliams and Adam Stower! This charged political atmosphere is immediately recognizable—it wasn’t all that long ago, and it was such a stressful period of time particularly for Americans— and it comes with a particular anxiety and, weirdly, certainty. For instance, it’s irritating and a little boring that Steph’s wife’s only personality trait is being into astrology.

One of the things I adore about David Walliams’ books is his ability to create wonderful characters that learn something about themselves or life as the story unfolds. Tom's scrapbooks are always fascinating, full of photographs, notes and snippets of history that inspire his books, and this one is no different! Little Monsters achieves a sense of momentum and pacing through a ticking clock counting down the months to a large event. Abby and Ken used to be close when they were young but things happened between them…and now, there is a tension between them. This book has a beautiful message for young readers about being yourself and finding your people while still being funny and engaging.

It’s April 2016 and Adam Gardner is suffering from insomnia and trying to decipher the clues his mind is depositing. Each morning, buzzing, he slung his legs off the bed and sat bolt upright, naked, allowing his male parts to hang over the edge of the mattress, and did his best to capture these jangled dreams, recording what details he could remember in a spiral-bound notebook kept by his bedside. Inspired by the archetypal story of Cain and Abel, Little Monsters is a kaleidoscopic, propulsive, and sophisticated drama exquisite with the tension of characters careening in and out of one another’s orbits, alternately sharing and withholding secrets from one another and themselves—and with Cape Cod’s magnificence and hidden corners elevating every page.

As often happened at dusk, a fracas erupted offshore—bluefish, crazed with hunger, thrashed, and arced open-mouthed, having corralled a school of bunkers to the surface. Jenny is now conflicted over where to place her loyalty, and equally at odds over what she has become.

The enigmatic Steph is a competent police officer vacationing in Provincetown, with her partner, Toni. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Little Monsters drew me in first by its cover, second by the synopsis, and lastly by the author's storytelling and beautiful writing style. Overall, Little Monsters is a heartfelt, intricate, nuanced tale by Brodeur that reminds us that families are complicated and messy, the choices we make often have far-reaching consequences, and skeletons often find their way to the surface no matter how well they’re buried. I suppose I did like Abby, and I hope motherhood brings more happiness and genuine love into her life. The bohemian, single Abby is a “graduate of RISD, 1999” and had been “making art on Cape Cod ever since. And that makes him the odd one out at Monster School… But when Howler finds some new friends, he discovers that being the ODD one out might just make him the COOLEST one of all… With giggles on every page, this hilarious new picture book is perfect for ALL little monsters. So, he impulsively stops taking his bipolar medicine with the hopes that the great idea will come to him more freely this way.

The voices in his head, which had been passing through for several weeks, seemed to have taken up permanent residency. It feels a bit jarring and as I’ve already said, we’ve read much better books that communicate the same message (like Odd dog out). His parenting style combined benign neglect with instruction in the flora and fauna of the Cape, punctuated by disappearances when he went off his bipolar meds and/or fell in love again.Adult siblings Ken and Abby Gardner hold fast to the only family narrative they know: their parents had a happy life together until their mother’s untimely death, when Adam, their heroic father, stepped into the role of single parent and gave them an idyllic childhood in the Wellfleet Woods. As a group, come up with a list of other pieces of media that deal with entangled family bonds, gender politics, women’s friendships, and childhood trauma, and discuss how these selections differ from or are similar to Little Monsters.
