The film, produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd. and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, is a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and serves as the fifth and final installment in the Indiana Jones film series. The first four films were directed by Steven Spielberg, who worked closely with George Lucas during their production. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), later marketed as Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, is the first installment in the Indiana Jones film series. A prequel, The Temple of Doom, was released in 1984, and a sequel, The Last Crusade, in 1989. A fourth Indiana Jones film followed in 2008, titled The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It is also the only film in the series not to be distributed by Paramount Pictures, following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm which transferred film rights for future sequels. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the first and only film in the series not directed by Steven Spielberg nor with a story written by George Lucas, with Spielberg and Lucas instead serving as executive producers.
The LEGO Group recently released its firstIndiana Jones-themed building sets in over ten years. Available now: Pop! is a prevalent line of collectible stylized vinyl figures produced by Funko. Destiny Pop! first released in 2017 as part of the Pop! Games subline, where it saw one wave of figures, and then another in 2018. As of 2021, the line of Destiny Pop! figures as well as the Destiny brand's involvement with Funko seems to have ceased.
