About this deal

Please give this Aberlour a bit of time in the glass before Nosing. It helps to calm down the initial waft of Varnish that greets the Nose. The influence of the Sherried Casks is there but it's not at all overwhelming. The Nose is basically Sweet with lots of Orange and Dried Fruit. A few Sour notes help to balance things out. The Alcohol is noticeable. The Nose feels Young but is okay though nothing special. The Fruity notes are a bit Artificial and remind me more of Fruit-Flavored Candies with the exception of the Orange note.

Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. On the nose, there are notes of caramel, along with dried orange zest. There are also pronounced green fruit aromas of apple and pear, which are often found in Speyside whiskies, as well as a cereal note of cooked oatmeal and a bit of cinnamon. There is just a hint of alcohol burn on the nose. Aged from a combination of first fill and refill sherry butts, the Casg Annamh is the latest release into the Aberlour range. A range that comes from a distillery whose whisky only lives as single malts. Unlike many distilleries who make a bulk of their money by selling to blenders like Diageo, Aberlour is only created to be single malt releases under their own name making indie bottlings fairly rare… dun dun dun – foreshadowing. The casks, perfectly complement the distillate of Aberlour, which is perhaps best-known for its cult A’Bunadh expression, a cask strength, 100% Sherry cask-matured single malt.” Aberlour (pronounced ‘Ab-er-LAU-errr’) sits at the base of the rugged mountain range, Ben Rinnes. Nestled in the village of the same name, the distillery was founded by Peter Weir and James Gordon in 1826, though Peter was to pull out a year later. The village lies on the Lour Burn, which converges with the River Spey just 270 metres from the distillery. The 6th century Celtic saint St Drostan, baptised local chiefs in the distillery’s water source.

Aberlour Casg Annamh – meaning ‘rare cask’ in Scots Gaelic – is a no age statement (NAS) single malt created in small batches from whisky matured in oloroso Sherry casks. On the palate, there is a dried fruit sweetness, both green fruit and dark, along with notes of honey, caramel and milk chocolate. There are elements of wood spice, especially cinnamon, as well as cooked cereal and a bit of smoke.

The NAS whisky is now available in an initial production run of 6000 bottles available in the U.S., with future releases on tap. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. We got to try this new Aberlour Casg Annamh at a Southern California Whiskey Club meeting with Aberlour. That night we tasted through a great selection of current Aberlour and a single cask 16-year-old, but this was by far the most interesting whisky of the night. Interesting enough that, spoiler, when it comes to Los Angeles I plan on snagging a bottle or two. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Casg Annamh is matured in three separate types of casks: European oak sherry casks, American oak sherry casks and American ex-bourbon casks. Both first fill and second fill casks are used.

Aberlour opened up the doors to its brand new visitor centre in August of 2002, with tours tailored for whisky aficionados rather than hoards of tourists. New to Aberlour’s permanent collection is Casg Annamh ( cas-gg ah-nahm) meaning “rare cask” in Gaelic. But what it really means is “sherry cask,” as this is an in-depth study of the influence of sherry on this Speyside whisky. While the bottling is a triple-cask release composed of whisky aged in oloroso sherry casks, American oak barrels, and American oak hogsheads, it’s really the sherry that shines the brightest throughout the experience. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. We tried this at a Southern California Whiskey Club meeting and without a doubt, I’ll be revisiting this when it’s available to the the Los Angeles market. It’s fun, it’s rich and it’s something unique in its delivery and execution. Nicely done Aberlour.
