In the Dutch dub, most of the rabbit sisters recycle voices from Lincoln's original sisters and/or Rita, likely to cut costs, as hiring new actresses for just a few lines would be rather unefficiënt and expensive. Mr. Crocodile, you live in the sea and I live on this island, and we do not often meet, so I know very little about you. Tell me, do you think the number of your company is greater than mine?” Telugu song 'Chandrullo unde kundelu' from the movie Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana references the rabbit on the moon.

In England, a now rarely served dish is potted hare. The hare meat is cooked, then covered in at least one inch (preferably more) of butter. The butter is a preservative (excludes air); the dish can be stored for up to several months. It is served cold, often on bread or as an appetizer. Oystercatchers fly past, skimming the surface of the ocean, their plaintive cries piercing the cool air. In the woods, rooks rise cawing in a sudden clatter of wings that echoes in the valley’s dark cleft. I particularly enjoyed the visual framework in this book, especially as I live in West Cornwall and I recognised places and maybe even a couple of characters. Just a sprinkling of spooky with beautiful poetic prose and drenched in the landscape, culture and history of West Cornwall. I’m right in the middle with this one, I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. Some parts were incredibly interesting and at times I was thoroughly enjoying this novel and convinced it would be a five star read because there’s nothing I enjoy more than a beautiful and mysterious story with some folklore and mayhem thrown in. Sometimes with this kind of fiction you see the same kind of storyline repeated too often but this story was definitely an original idea that I’ve never seen before so I really did love that and the writing style was just stunning! Where it lost me a bit is the characters, I wasn’t particularly fond of any of them and characters are really essential to my enjoyment of a story. Despite that it is still a beautiful story and I do still recommend it! First the entrails are removed from the hare carcass before it is hung in a larder by its hind legs, which causes blood to accumulate in the chest cavity. One method of preserving the blood after draining it from the hare (since the hare is usually hung for a week or more) is to mix it with red wine vinegar to prevent coagulation, and then to store it in a freezer. [18] [19] When the crocodiles had pulled out the last bit of fur, they threw the poor hare on the beach, and all swam away laughing at what they had done. Now one of these young men had a bad and spiteful disposition. But he feigned kindness, and said to the hare: The crocodile plunged into the sea and was gone for some time. The hare, meanwhile, waited patiently on the shore. At last the crocodile appeared, bringing with him a large number of other crocodiles. John Seymour & Sally Seymour (September–October 1976). A ghost story from West Looe

The White Hare provides a wonderful, spooky read that remains rewarding throughout. I have run up against so many books lately that begin with promise, but lose course, that I can't begin to say how grateful I am for a title that I never once considered abandoning. This book really was a pleasant surprise. This is a wonderful read for those who enjoy historical fiction with some Magical realism mixed in. This was my first book Jane Johnson and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

An early Chinese source called the Chu Ci, a Western Han anthology of Chinese poems from the Warring States period, notes that along with a toad, there is a hare on the Moon who constantly pounds herbs for the immortals. This notion is supported by later texts, including the Song-era Taiping Imperial Reader. As rabbits were not yet introduced to China during Western Han, the original image was not a rabbit but a hare. [2] Varying in sophistication and elaboration, this icononography characterises all the “three hares” of church architecture in Britain, from a late-15th-century carved wooden boss in the chapel at Cotehele in Cornwall to a stained glass roundel at Holy Trinity church, Long Melford in Suffolk, and a painted stone boss in the Lady Chapel of St David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire. The Italian band, Moonlight Haze, has a song "The Rabbit of the Moon", inspired by the Japanese legend. The story explores the Cornish folklore and it's an atmospheric read. Magda and Mila buy a gothic styled house that they want to restore but both have different visions for it's use after the restorations are complete. The Cornish legend is entwined with the supernatural, Mila's daughter, five year old Janey's behaviour changes almost overnight. she becomes obsessed with a toy rabbit. This is a descriptively and well written book. The characters are well developed and believable. I quite enjoyed this book. An engrossing gothic tale of family secrets, scandals, and ancient mysteries in a small Cornish village in 1954. . . . There are plenty of savory atmospheric details.”

I do believe that this is my 3rd or 4th Jane Johnson read and I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I have come to the realization that I love her stories so much and yet, I constantly forget to recommend her books as often as I should. In The White Hare I was immersed in the tale and I liked the characters very much. Aside from the family quarrels that pop up between Mila and Magdalena, there were some very suspicious incidents with a certain rabbit. If I did have a quibble, it was perhaps that I felt Mila might have needed to own up to the fact that she was a lot more like her mother than she admitted to being. For fans of Alice Hoffman and Kate Morton, The White Hare is a spellbinding novel about mothers and daughters finding a new home for themselves, the secrets they try to bury, and the local legends that may change their lives. Locals say this valley is home to a white hare; to some it's an ill omen, to others a blessing. Feeling fragile and broken-hearted, Mila is in need of as many blessings as she can get. But will this place provide the fresh start she so desperately needs? Droppings are left in clusters of little, round, hard balls. They are usually yellowy-brown or green in colour, and full of grass. Hare droppings (on the right) tend to be slightly bigger and flatter than rabbit droppings (left-hand side).

Then one day his employer announced that he was employing a young peasant girl from a local family as the milkmaid to work in the dairy for him. The girl, although from a poor peasant family, was very pretty with a most pleasing personality, but had received no education at all and was very naive and inexperienced in worldly matters. According to Jewish tradition, the hare is among mammals deemed not kosher, and therefore not eaten by observant Jews. Muslims deem coney meat (rabbit, pika, hyrax) to be halal, and in Egypt, hare and rabbit are popular meats for mulukhiyah ( jute leaf soup), especially in Cairo. [17] Blood [ edit ] In the manga Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan - Episode 4: The Harvest Moon a supernatural creature by the name of The Moon Rabbit (月の兎 Tsuki no Usagi) is responsible for the curse of the Mochizuki family. Danny daydreaming about Betty hopping through the forest was a takeoff of Clyde imagining Lori running on the beach in " One of the Boys". The young man was a clever, handsome fellow and was delighted to take on such a splendid opportunity to show the world his worth and build a fine name and career for himself. He moved into the farmhouse and went about his tasks in an highly efficient and businesslike manner. The farm prospered and so did his standing with his employer and in the local community. His family gained greater respect and status in the local social circles and all was well. The sun climbs higher. The body now lies fully exposed, a clear landmark on the shore. It lies like a person in repose, on its side, one arm flung up above the head, face turned from the land as if spurning human interaction. The soles of its feet are white as lilies and beginning to wrinkle. One knee is drawn up, lending the figure a dancer’s poise. The stains on the body’s clothing contrasting with the muted colours of the natural world punctuate the scene like a shout. There is a timeless quality to the book with only a few references to the Second World War pointing to it being set in 1954. The remoteness of White Cove and the nearby village gives a sense of a place somewhat detached from modern life. ‘The old ways run deep in this part of the county. It’s a place full of ancient mysteries and a great deal of superstition.’ In this respect Cornwall with its rich history of legends and its ancient monuments makes an ideal setting for the story. It’s believable that the supernatural is not far from the surface in this part of the world and that life is lived very much to the rhythm of nature. It also goes some way to explaining the villagers initial hostility towards the new arrivals. ‘The valley doesn’t welcome outsiders.’
