About this deal

Be attentive while applying the product. Its fumes may be rather toxic. Special attention should be paid to the methods of using the epoxy. Never combine the substance with any other materials you do not know much about. For leveling or filling jobs that withstand up to 1000 degreesF, you need High-Temperature Lab Metal.

Putty preparation: Mix thoroughly 100 parts by weight of the filler with 2-3 parts by weight of the curing agent to obtain uniform colour. Using too much hardener can result in discolouration of the top coat. Use the 80-grit aluminum oxide paper to abrade the surface before applying the sealant. Mind that aluminum is nonporous so sandpaper may not always be useful. Ensure that the surface is solid, so you need to remove all the blistering, old coating, flaking, and chalking before the application. Do I need to prime the aluminum before painting? Please be aware that upon opening the tin the product will have settled and the resin will be sitting atop of the filler paste. The product will require breaking up and stirring for 10-15 minutes until a smooth even paste is achieved. Porosity is often regarded as an inherent feature of MIG welds; typical appearance of finely distributed porosity in a TIG weld is shown in the photograph. The main cause of porosity is absorption of hydrogen in the weld pool which forms discrete pores in the solidifying weld metal. The most common sources of hydrogen are hydrocarbons and moisture from contaminants on the parent material and filler wire surfaces, and water vapour from the shielding gas atmosphere. Even trace levels of hydrogen may exceed the threshold concentration required to nucleate bubbles in the weld pool, aluminium being one of the metals most susceptible to porosity. Aluminium and its alloys can be readily welded providing appropriate precautions are taken. The most likely imperfections in fusion welds are:U-groove drive rolls. These drive rolls prevent the wire from being pinched or compressed, and help ensure proper wire feeding. When trying to choose between the common 4043 and 5356 aluminum filler metals, there is a series of five questions to ask to narrow down the selection.

You need to know the conditions in which your repaired surface is supposed to function. Consider the highest and lowest temperatures possible. Sometimes, that can become a critical indicator. Overall Look and Ability to Be Painted The alloys can be further classified according to the means by which the alloying elements develop mechanical properties, non-heat-treatable or heat-treatable alloys. Non-heat-treatable alloys As a rule, this factor does not influence the quality of repairs if the issue needs to be fixed. It does not matter how much time it will take to do it if you need a satisfactory result. To minimise the risk, rigorous cleaning of material surface and filler wire should be carried out. Three cleaning techniques are suitable; mechanical cleaning, solvent degreasing and chemical etch cleaning. Applications that will be subject to long-term elevated temperature exposure (above 150 degrees Fahrenheit). That is why we have collected some factors that you have to take into consideration while choosing the right epoxy for your purposes. Here they are. Time for Drying Hi-Temp Lab-metal is applied directly from the can with a putty knife or similar tool. No two-component mixing or measuring is necessary. Many applications may be made from a single can. After each use, to prevent Hi-Temp Lab-metal from hardening in the can, pour Lab-solvent over the remaining Hi-Temp Lab-metal contents, then cover tightly. (Stir the solvent into the Hi-Temp Lab-metal before using again). Lab-solvent is also used to thin Hi-Temp Lab-metal for brush-on applications. Hi-Temp Lab-metal is recommended where original Lab-metal may not withstand the extreme heat. Originally developed due to requests from the foundry industry, industries such as metalworking, powder coating, welding, fabricating, heating, construction, auto repair, die casting, mold refinishing, and sheet metal production and finishing have found uses for Hi-Temp Lab-metal. It successfully repairs:

Wire brushing (stainless steel bristles), scraping or filing can be used to remove surface oxide and contaminants. Degreasing should be carried out before mechanical cleaning. As pure aluminium is relatively soft, small amounts of alloying elements are added to produce a range of mechanical properties. The alloys are grouped according to the principal alloying elements, specific commercial alloys have a four-digit designation according to the international specifications for wrought alloys or the ISO alpha - numeric system. This fast curing Epoxy Metal Filler is suited to repair car surface damage to metal parts such as dents, reshaping of surfaces or fully sealing welded seams to provide corrosion protection. 3M™ FC Epoxy Metal Filler has a unique formulation, is lead-free, contains 100% solids and thus will not shrink whilst curing. It shows excellent adhesion and corrosion protection properties. It is recommended that the powder is mixed thoroughly with Part 'A' of polyurethane casting resins (like our Fast Cast) before adding part B. Never count the weight of the filler powder in the mix ratio.Thin with Lab Solvent to ease spreadability. Typically dries in 24 hours, heat cure at 425 degF for 1 hour before exposing to high temperatures. Great for filling surfaces before powder coating where 2 or more coats are required. Material strength depends on the effect of work hardening and solid solution hardening of alloy elements such as magnesium, and manganese; the alloying elements are mainly found in the 1xxx, 3xxx and 5xxx series of alloys. When welded, these alloys may lose the effects of work hardening which results in softening of the HAZ adjacent to the weld. Heat-treatable alloys If a spool of aluminum wire isn’t going to be used cover the spool with the plastic bag the wire shipped in or with another protective cover. TIG cut-lengths are best stored in their original box to protect against dirt and debris. dented metal, prior to powder-coating — when Lab-metal cannot be used due to the extreme temperatures.
