I gave this book two stars because it does do a decent job of describing the personality of a narcissist and the dynamics found within a narcissistic/codependent relationship. However, it is a very poorly written book – a lot of times I found myself going, huh? It was painful to read about the subject matter but sadly it was also painful to read in general because it was written by, more than likely, someone who doesn’t write professionally and I highly doubt the author used an editor which is too bad because it could’ve been a great book. Yes, a narcissist will torture you. Yes, they describe their experience being tortured. The rest is just a litany of complaints that offers no value in narcissist behavior – not all narcs are alike. They operate with similar goals e.g. using a would-be romantic partner and then hurting them as much as possible when they are done with them. Narcissists do NOT contribute to a relationship. There will be sex, sure. That is for their own entertainment. They will do NOTHING to keep you in a relationship, there will be NO reciprocity, and they will do nothing but STUDY YOU so they can try and flip the psychological script on you and make YOU into the bad person, and most assuredly hurting you psychologically AND physically.
