About this deal

MindTrap French (2006) - the original game, translated into French and distributed by Outset Media. Along with having more variety in the types of questions, I actually think the quality of the questions are also better in MindTrap 2. I will admit that MindTrap 2 still has plenty of “dad joke” riddles but there are more questions that actually rely on some actual thought to come up with the solution. I would actually say that some of the questions are even pretty clever. This still doesn’t fix all of the problems with the game but it does make it more enjoyable than the original game. Answer: The catcher and the umpire. 3. What has six faces, but does not wear makeup, has 21 eyes, but cannot see?

So, we have a fairly standard party game rulebook, but in the same way that questions in the game can be vague and open to interpretation, the rules are light on rigid certainty. It even admits that players are free to set time limits on answers “as you see fit.” This might be something you’d want to consider, with some questions being so complex that, during my playtesting, up to 10 minutes could be spent on debating one answer. Thankfully, there is a bonus mechanic to balance the tougher questions; the ‘enquiry card’ system. Your Best Jonathan Creek Impression

Invented in Canada, it is the main product of MindTrap Games, Inc., who license the game for manufacture by various companies including Outset Media, Blue Opal, the Great American Puzzle Factory, Pressman Toy Corporation, Spears Games and Winning Moves. The second the answer was read that on the card, I immediately frowned and shook my head. If there was a storm going on that was bad enough to take out the power, surely it would be dark outside, even in the daytime? Yes, the ‘without moonlight’ line implies that it is daytime, but that doesn’t mean that there is light. Questionable Questions Answer: Your left hand! 15. A man was walking in the rain. He was in the middle of nowhere. He had nothing and nowhere to hide. He came home all wet, but not a single hair on his head was wet. Why is that?

MindTrap - The Revised Edition (2007) - a new edition comprising puzzles from MindTrap and MindTrap II. Another problem with MindTrap and MindTrap 2 is there is a lot of sitting around waiting for the other team. If you are only playing with two players, the reader basically can’t do anything while they wait for the other player to answer. With larger teams the players other than the reader can try to solve the mystery but they are still forced to wait for the other team. I think the game might have been better if both teams could have worked on the puzzles at the same time (outside of the reader of course) and whichever team could solve it first would receive the reward. The series seemed to somewhat go in this direction as MindTrap 2 has the team challenges which I think were good additions. There is still quite a bit of sitting around in MindTrap 2 though. Pressman Toy Corporation released a series of 500 piece, 24" x 18", "mystery" jigsaw puzzles, each provided with a booklet of an original short mystery story. Readers assemble the puzzle to discover clues to match wits against Detective Shadow in a race to solve the crime. We realize that on occasion there may be more than one possible answer or solution. However, we recommend that only MindTrap's answer be accepted for the purpose of scoring. Mindtrap is full of puzzle and mysteries that will have you second-guessing yourself. Mindtrap is a simple game to learn - when a question is asked, someone needs to answer or solve the problem. Be careful of traps in this game, they are more common than you might think.Speaking of board games coming out of boxes, did you solve my puzzle? The answer is below! Answer to question:

Many of the answers to MindTrap's questions require more than a guess. An explanation is needed to justify the answer and earn a point. I understand the need for this rule, since players could start making real logical leaps to justify their answers, but this hardly seems fair to a team that stated a valid answer, but scored no points because it wasn’t the one that the game had come up with. In my games, we did bend the rules, and allowed people to have another go, or a different question, in situations like this. If we had kept getting things wrong, then the game would have gone on for a very, very long time… Final Thoughts I understand the need for this rule, since players could start making real logical leaps to justify their answers, but this hardly seems fair to a team that stated a valid answer, but scored no points because it wasn’t the one that the game had come up with. In my games, we did bend the rules, and allowed people to have another go, or a different question, in situations like this. If we had kept getting things wrong, then the game would have gone on for a very, very long time... Final Thoughts Answer: There are nine Mustards in the family. Since each daughter shares the same brother, there are six girls, one boy, and Mr. and Mrs. Mustard. 13. One is to three as three is to five, and five is to four and four is the magic number. What is the pattern? MindTrap: Shadow Mysteries (2011) - for ages 12 and up. Includes detective scenarios from MindTrap's infamous characters "Detective Shadow", "Sid Shady" and "Sam Sham".

We will refer to the teams as 1 and 2. To begin, one person from Team 1 selects a card. After reading the question out loud, the "reader" flips the card over and reads the answer silently. For the shorter path the light path goes left, down, right, and then up. For the longer path the light path goes left, down, right, up, left, and down. Playing the Game Riddles have never been an expert area of mine, but I must admit that there were a couple of times where I read the question, then the answer, and I still didn’t quite get it, or said “Hang on, that doesn’t make sense.” Riddles like those in MindTrap rely on the use of small pieces of information that seem irrelevant at first, but are vital when you come to find the answer. Unfortunately, there were a couple of cases where one of those pieces of information seemed to disprove the answer, or take you away from it, rather than guiding you towards it. Of course, red herrings and misleading statements have their place in such puzzles, but they can ruin the puzzle if they are done wrong. This team has rolled a two so they will get to move forward two spaces. By rolling the dice they give up the rest of their turn. A sequel to MindTrap, originally titled MindTrap - The Challenge Continues was released in 1997 by MindTrap Games, Inc. and Pressman Toy Corporation. The Roman numeral "II" was later added to this title. European released translations of the sequel include Greek, Portuguese and Spanish. In 2001 Ultimate MindTrap, the official sequel to MindTrap II, was released in the UK.
