About this deal

The villain in the action-adventure film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade warns hero Indiana Jones: "Don't trust anybody". Once they’ve heard all your despicable secrets they’ll be able to set up a lucrative career as a blackmailer so you need to work together to make sure that definitely doesn’t happen. It leads to a frustrating situation where everyone knows who committed the crime, but they’re able to evade and impede your efforts to nail them down. Death on the Cards also has a setup mechanic where three cards are placed face-up next to the draw pile. The basic premise is the same however many players you have – the murderer must exhaust the draw pile to reveal the ‘Murderer Escapes’ card which depicts them gleefully skipping off into the distance with nary a care in the world.

Getting to that point can be hard work because the rules take a while to understand, compute, and log in your brain, but it's a worthwhile investment overall. Naturally, when the opportunity to review Agatha Christie’s Death on the Cards arose, I jumped at it. Maybe some people would be able to play this sedately, but family psychology meant we were in fits with each new twist and turn of the game. It becomes a race against time, with the innocent players working to figure out who the murderer is by uncovering each other's secrets. Each comes with special abilities forcing players to reveal some of their secret cards, but you’ll need to collect them in sets to activate them.

As the ‘Murderer’ your aim is to either use up the play deck until the ‘The Murder Escapes’ card is revealed, or get everybody else to reveal all their ‘Secret’ cards. Sidequest was provided with a copy of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Cards in exchange for a fair and honest review. The game consists of 80 full colour, illustrated cards with 18 secret cards, 25 detective cards, 22 event cards, 4 devious cards, 10 ‘Not so Fast’ cards and 1 Murderer Escapes! Well, like the quote "Don't trust anybody" goes, you can't entirely trust and rely on fellow players in this game!

Auroch Digital is a Bristol-based independent video games development studio and consultancy, known for our high-quality, faithful board game IP adaptations including Ogre, Dark Future and Chainsaw Warrior. It makes it fair for the murderer to have a chance to win so it is not too overwhelming with everyone out "to get him". In Agatha Christie: Death on the Cards, players work co-operatively to solve a murder, using their detective skills to unmask the culprit and prevent their escape. The world of Agatha Christie has been translated into a tense but fun card game of mystery, bluffing and deduction - where everyone is guilty but only one of them is guilty of murder. To unmask the killer, you’ll play cards representing detectives from Poirot and Marple to less well-remembered characters like Tommy and Tuppence Beresford and Harley Quin (no, not that Harley Quinn). Sometimes we may include links to online retailers, from which we might receive a commission if you make a purchase. Before the game begins, each player draws three cards from a deck containing a variety of shameful secrets. In addition, should the murderer reveal everyone’s secrets the murderer wins while should the murderer’s secrets be revealed the murderer loses.

However the path of justice won’t be that simple for you have deep dark secrets you want to keep hidden, while trying to shine the light of truth on to this dastardly deed!Though the gameplay may not be varied and chaotic enough for a bunch of adults to play, Agatha Christie’s Death on the Cards would be perfect if you need to entertain a kid for half an hour or so. A review copy of Agatha Christie - Death on the Cards was provided to TheGamer by Modiphius Entertainment. In the game, which consists of a deck of eighty cards, players work co-operatively to solve a murder, using their detective skills to unmask the culprit and prevent their escape. escape (see about my family's first try at the game below) and I would say the same is true in giving a chance for the "innocents" to win also. As you'd expect from a whodunnit, your goal in Agatha Christie's Death on the Cards is to catch the murderer (or escape, if you're the culprit).
