About this deal

is pretty competitive, relative to similar products, and quite a bit cheaper than the otherwise excellent Squirt Long Lasting Dry Chain Lube. Ceramics, such as Weldtite TF2 Advanced Ceramic Chain Wax run cleaner, and will achieve similar miles per application, but are a good bit more expensive. With that in mind, avoiding a contaminated drivetrain is key to optimum efficiency and ensuring long-lasting parts. Our Hydrodynamic Lube is our most advanced formula! It is all weather, lasts for up to 200 miles and works best at making sure your drivetrain runs smooth, quiet and efficiently! It is designed for road cycling and cyclocross.

Some brands recommend leaving the lube in place for a specific period of time before wiping off the excess, so read the manufacturer's instructions to make sure that you're doing it right. What’s the difference between wax and oil lube? As for Green Oil's claims of over 200 miles or 124 miles between applications, we found that after 100 miles of riding our chain was still running smoothly. You may see that we sell lube labelled both ‘wet’ and ‘dry’, the difference in what they are used for are outlined below. Dry Lube Apply a moderate amount of Dry Chain Lube to the inside chain link while spin pedals in a reverse motion For watt-conscious racers who don’t fancy themselves as chain cookers, companies such as Ceramicspeed, Watt Shop and Zero Friction Cycling now sell pre-prepared waxed chains. Wet lubes can be used all year, offer better value and have the greatest longevity. Whether wet or dry, it’s often a question of how much time and effort you want to put in.

As Nash also points out: “Value is an issue — in a bottle of wet lube, 100 percent of the formula will lubricate. In a dry lube, some of the formula is solvent, which is there just to aid application.” ZFC says immersive waxing and re-waxing at 300km intervals, or after every wet ride, can extend a chain’s lifespan to around 15,000km – about three times as long as what is typically achieved with standard drip lubes. This also helps massively extend the lifespan of the other, more expensive drivetrain components such as cassettes and chainrings.Whichever lube you prefer to use, for the best results Trimnell suggests that you leave the lube on the chain overnight before riding for maximum benefit. The granting of a best price is not combinable with other promotions (e.g. "free articles) from Bike-Discount. The downside of wet lubes? These same properties also make it a magnet for dirt and grime (especially if applied excessively), and the extra viscosity also means lower outright efficiency compared to thinner lubes, due to the added viscous friction. Conventional wisdom has it that dry lubes are for fine, dry conditions. Fair enough, but this is Britain and we don't have a balmy Californian climate, we have weather in all its moist and infinite variety and any lube is going to have to earn its keep. Green Oil's wet lube is fully biodegradable and is made from 100% natural ingredients. To increase durability and the length of time between applications, this wet lube contains N-Toc, a special refined plant extract that has similar properties to Teflon. Green Oil claims it lasts over 200 kilometres on the chain per application, depending on the conditions.

Every bike cupboard should have both a wet and dry lube. Dry lubes are for the driest conditions and cleanest chains. Most wet lubes will provide efficient lubrication for over 100 miles of riding with one application. If you ride in the winter months a wet lube will resist salt corrosion. Wet lubes are also really good at reducing drivetrain noise. The type of lube you choose to use comes down to several factors involving where and when you ride. If you are fastidious about cleaning your bike regularly, and often ride in inclement conditions, then wet lube is the right choice for you.

For wet conditions, the winner is slightly less clear cut, but we’d still recommend waxed-based lubricants for their efficiency. Crucially, however, you’ll have to be prepared to clean your chain immediately after wet rides to prevent corrosion. As a lower viscosity lubricant, dry lubes promise greater efficiency through lower friction and by attracting fewer contaminants.
