The lens features a new 7-Element 4-Group arrangement of glass to try and minimise the effects of chromatic aberration by using low dispersion lens coatings and improve sharpness of the image from edge to edge and top to bottom. Being a single chip device also means there are no issues with panel alignment, which can be a slight issue for the 3-chip machines from Epson, Sony and JVC. But BenQ instead of choosing one or the other decided to create two models that have great similarities in many of their specs but with one having more brightness (TK800) and mostly suited for sports and gaming while the other (HT2550) having better colors and thus suited more for home theaters with low light environments. That extra pop was apparent while sailing the seas in Sea of Thieves. The reflection of the sun in the waves or the explosion of a nearby volcano stood out nicely against the overcast sky, especially while playing in a dark room. The HDR highlights looked pretty good during the day as well. The resonance chamber enhances the wider frequency range especially for deeply resonant bass from a compact speaker.

Display and Performance
Gaming is another excellent use of the BenQ TK800M which makes immersive titles such as The Witcher 3 or AC Odyssey much more compelling. The extra pop in colors makes scenes lusher, while the contrast takes care of clean separations between well-lit and dim areas. However, competitive games such as CSGO or Apex Legends are out due to the 46ms input lag which adds a hit to responsiveness. It doesn't hurt that the projector is really bright, which means that even with SDR content it can deliver images that have genuine impact, even in less-than-ideal conditions. As such you can use the TK800 in a room with white walls or big windows, and still enjoy a huge projected image. It looks identical to its predecessor, the TK800. On my 0.9-gain screen I was able to measure just over 50 foot-Lamberts (fL). To put this in context, a good light level in a dark room is around 15 fL, while you want that up around 30 with ambient light during the day. The extra brightness of the BenQ allows for some nice HDR highlights that really pop while using the projector in a dark room. Let’s see now how the unit fares in the input lag tests. Our measurements showed an input lag of 43.2ms which is very good for gaming but not exceptional. For any kind of casual gaming it will be more than enough but if you take your gaming sessions very seriously then there are other projectors that offer better input lag for such occasions. BenQ has made some very good projectors lately. As for 8K we are still a long way from having any kind of affordable 8K projector. And especially since there is no commercially available content. So my suggestion would be to get a 4K one as their prices have fallen greatly and you can enjoy a lot of content on it. 8K is many years away yet. The lightweight nature of the projector is excellent to have at this point since you don’t have to overbuild the mount for it.
