Very good book in full blue morocco leather covers with bright gilt titles to a somewhat sunned spine.Good story, a con man totally messes up an odd little veneer business staffed by hopeless subordinates.

He had spent years making neat little columns of figures, entering ledgers and then balancing them, but this was not drudgery to him. In comes a rather charismatic and piratical figure, and his daughter and everyone's life is affected. the likes of Herbert Norman Smeeth, the cashier; Harold Turgis, the clerk; Lilian Matfield, the secretary-typist; and the boss, Howard Bromport Dersingham! It should not be overlooked that Priestley was an outstanding essayist, and many of his short pieces best capture his passions and his great talent and his mastery of the English language.Following the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, Priestley joined the British Army, and was sent to France --in 1915 taking part in the Battle of Loos.
