About this deal

The book was written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Together Julia and Axel are the UK’s most successful picture book creators. Zog and the Flying Doctors was first published by Scholastic in 2016 and is the eighth adaptation by Magic Light Pictures of a Donaldson/Scheffler title for BBC One. The kingdom is terrorised by the terrible twosome Sir Rancid and his "Nanny" - a comical version of Sir Mordred and his aunt Morgan le Fay - who are set on destroying Camelot and the Round Table. Their attempts to destroy Camelot are always stopped by the intervention of Gadabout, Will, and the mysterious "Sir Knight". The only one who knows the identity of "Sir Knight" is Merlin, who watches over Camelot in his crystal ball. Love Potion - It is Cupid's Day in Camelot but Nanny's plan to make King Arthur fall in love with her goes horribly wrong. Instead Sir Gadabout falls in love with Nanny, and King Arthur falls in love with his horse! Surely Sir Knight can save the day? Martyn Beardsley lives just outside Nottingham. As well as writing children's books, he loves reading and writing about history, almost any period. He gets many of his ideas for stories when he's taking his mad dog for a walk early in the morning. Martyn has written over fifteen books: Five Naughty Kittens and The Dog that went Woof, the Sir Gadabout stories, a couple of ghost stories and some history books for children. For adults, he has written one historical biography, a book about England's last duel, and edited the diary of an eighteenth century surgeon-apothecary. Martyn Beardsley has lived in Nottingham all his life. A civil servant for many years, he is now concentrating on his writing career. As well as being a children's author, one of his great passions is history. In 2002 he published a biography of Sir John Franklin, the Arctic explorer. A committed Buddhist, he is interested in reading, sport, keep-fit and yoga. Martyn Beardsley is married with one daughter and a mad dog.

This Christmas 2020, they’re bringing the fabulous and timely Zog and the Flying Doctors to BBC One and BBC iPlayer, sequel to the great 2018 success Zog.In Year Five the dragons learn to fight, at which moment a bumbling knight, Sir Gadabout the Great, arrives, claiming he is going to rescue Princess Pearl. Zog and Gadabout square up for a fight about who is going to keep Pearl. Elenora's Betrothal - King Arthur dreams that Elenora will one day run Camelot. He must marry her off to prevent such a terrible thing. Rancid is determined to win her hand and therefore Camelot. Sadly, Will's rescue plan depends on Sir Gadabout winning a duel. Only a miracle can save her.

Zog (Hugh Skinner) is of course key to Princess Pearl's new calling, serving as her winged, fire-breathing air ambulance to help his friend and his not-quite-a-friend, Sir Gadabout (Daniel Ings), tend to their patients, who include a sunburnt mermaid, a distressed unicorn and a sneezing lion. He’s the keenest pupil and he tries as hard as he can to learn to fly, roar and breathe fire. But every year the gold star eludes him when his valiant efforts end in mishap and a kind young girl with medical ambitions finds him and patches up his bumps and bruises. Then in Year Four all the young dragons are instructed to capture a princess.I was delighted to be asked to play Princess Pearl as I’ve always loved Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's work. It was such fun to do, and I’m really excited for people to share in Pearl and Zog’s adventure. It’s a total treat.” Princess Elenora/Sir Knight - Arthur's beautiful and tomboyish daughter. Elenora wishes to be a knight herself but is underestimated by her father. Ironically, she often finds herself being the one to protect her father from Rancid and Nanny. When trouble strikes, she secretly dons a mysterious silver suit of armour and appears as the enigmatic Sir Knight. Only Merlin knows that Elenora is really Sir Knight. Played by Tamsin Egerton. Sir Gestion ( Richard James) An extremely well-spoken knight with an odd wit. His name is a play on "suggestion".
