About this deal

They get their name from their chosen homes - hedges - and the grunting noises they make which sound a little like pigs.

Rosie Wellesley

Help children differentiate between the emergency services and other local and community jobs. Discuss children’s understanding and experiences of ambulance/ fire/ police/ rescue services.

Reminders: Please ensure children’s book bags are brought into the Nursery every Thursday to change their reading books. May we please also ask that children do not bring toys from home into the Nursery as they can get lost or broken. These early years hedgehog activities and resources give you a wide range of ideas and options for your day. Use them to get inspired for lesson planning, or for creating continuous provisions that children can explore on their own. Take a look through this collection to find our whole range, but a few of our favourites are: Communication, Language and Literacy: Our new nursery children will be continuing to recognise their names, respond to simple instructions, make more meaningful and controlled marks and participate in phonics phase 1 activities. Older nursery children will practise writing their names by developing an effective pencil grip, learning the letter sounds s, a and try reading and writing them. Read Dog Eat Dog. How do you think the mum would have felt about her kitchen being messed up? What about the dad when he realises his lettuces have been eaten?! What do you do if someone messes your stuff up? Discuss hurt feelings and being upset, and how we cope with these emotions: forgiveness, making up, saying you still love someone.

Rosie Wellesley was born in London but grew up in Morocco, Pakistan and the west country. She studied as an undergraduate at L'ecole des Beaux Arts in Aix en Provence and at the Ruskin school of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford. Last year she graduated from the postgraduate diploma at Prince's School of Drawing in London. She now lives and works in East London. Top Tip: -Try adding words that use each week's/day's sound and build up a bank of decodable words. Read Don't Hog the Hedge together - This lovely Twinkl Original is a sweet story to use with your children in a literacy topic. It's a sweet story to help children learn about hibernation and think about sharing. Find a read-a-long video for this story below.Choose which poem works best for your class (perhaps just ask children to learn the first verse of Three Little Kittens if you choose that one). Introduce on Monday by reading and discussing and sending a copy of the words home ( see resources)
