About this deal

That beats other long-lasting Windows laptops we’ve recently tested, such as Lenovo’s Yoga 9i and the Razer Book 13. Most owners can expect the Latitude 5420 to endure a full workday of constant use on the go. Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. Apple Silicon still has it beat, though. The MacBook Pro we recently tested handled 14 hours of our battery life, a full four and a half hours more than the Latitude 5420. The speakers sound powerful The Latitude 5420 we tested had Intel’s Core i7-10610U quad-core processor. It’s an upgrade from the Core i3 processor found in the base configuration, but it certainly didn’t feel like it.

However, this doesn’t stop the Latitude 14 5420 to provide some computational performance to its users. Interestingly, the laptop is offered with both Comet Lake-U and Tiger Lake processors. Why? We don’t know. What we do know is that the 10nm architecture of Intel introduced a huge boost in performance. Not only when it comes to CPU-intensive loads, but to graphics power as well. So, getting the so-called “11-th Gen” processors would be a priority. The Dell Latitude 5420 comes standard with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro. If you don’t need all of the Pro features, you can switch to Windows 11 Home. This laptop also supports Linux if you prefer an alternative operating system. Dell Latitude 5420: Pros and Cons Modern connectivity is provided by twin Thunderbolt 4 ports with Power Delivery and DisplayPort mode. These versatile ports can connect to a variety of USB-C or Thunderbolt devices, can charge the laptop, and can power an external monitor.Estimated valueis Dell’s estimate of product value based on industry data, including the prices at which third-party retailers have offered or valued the same or comparable products, in its most recent survey of major online and/or off-line retailers. Third-party retailer data may not be based on actual sales.

All other products will be delivered via the fastest available method (excluding bank holidays and weekends) and generally within 3-5 days, depending on customer location. Dell Latitude 14 5420’s display doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. This makes the screen comfortable and safe for long periods of use. Its 1920 x 1080 resolution, matte display coat, and good contrast ratio make a decent first impression. To its credit, the display works well for its narrow intended purpose. It’s readable, resists glare, and is bright enough to use in any office. Terms Apply. Promotion ends 3 December 2023. Items are subject to availability. Max 5 units per customer. These results come with an important caveat. Dell has updated the Latitude 5420 with models that offer new Intel Core processors and Intel Iris Xe graphics. We haven’t tested the Latitude 5420 in this configuration, but we have tested laptops with similar hardware. We expect the new models to provide a small boost in processor performance and a significant boost in graphics performance. Our most sustainable Latitude: The Latitude 5000 Series use 21% bioplastics from trees within the lid by utilizing Tall Oil from the papermaking process. * The overall manufacturing process creates a lower carbon, energy and water footprint, reducing CO2 emissions equal to 24.2 million miles driven, saving energy to power 5,564 homes for a year, and conserving enough water to fill 226 Olympic-size pools. * Nothing about the Latitude 5420 suggests it might be a good laptop for anything unrelated to work, so perhaps it’s no surprise the display fails to hold up.

Dell Optimizer extends runtime and improves battery performance by adapting to your patterns. ExpressCharge Boost delivers up to 35% charge in about 20 minutes, or up to 80% charge in an hour with ExpressCharge. * The Dell Latitude has been a staple in the business-grade laptop market for decades. Loved by companies worldwide, the Dell Latitude has built a fantastic reputation for itself. The Dell Latitude 5420 builds upon the previous models’ reputation and adds some impressive features. Most newer laptops are taking away your ability to perform aftermarket upgrades, with Apple especially guilty of this on the new MacBook Air and Pro. Dell is going against the trend and still offers a wide range of upgrade options for the Latitude 5420. You can upgrade the RAM to 64GB, using 3200MHz DDR4. The storage is also highly customizable. Thanks to the built-in M.2 slot, you can add up to a 2TB NVMe SSD. With these upgrades, you’ll easily be able to run the most demanding business applications. Additionally, since the screen is only 1080p definition, it might not appeal to gamers. Coupling that with the fact that it relies on basic integrated graphics makes it clear that this is not a good laptop for gaming. In brief, stay away from the Dell Latitude 5420. This is not the work-from-home laptop you’re looking for.Connect confidently: Stay connected with up to 450 Mbps LTE mobile broadband speeds. Wi-Fi 6E allows 7 additional channels (in 6GHz band) for more bandwidth which provides faster, smoother Wi-Fi, especially in high-density areas. * Travel with ease with new eSIM technology that connects to more global carriers without having to switch SIM cards. * If you’re a traveling professional, the Latitude 5420 is one of the better choices due to its low weight and high-performance specs. On the same note, this also makes it an ideal laptop for college students and creatives. Don’t buy it if… A 63 watt-hour battery powers the Dell Latitude 5420. That’s not massive, but it feels above average in 2021. Most premium and luxury laptops have cut battery size in an effort to reduce weight. Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. We’ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointer’s gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day. It’s honestly the worst touchpad we’ve used in years. We became so frustrated that, at one point during testing, our reviewer rage-quit the laptop entirely and walked off to finish the day’s work on a desktop.
