Most owners can expect the Latitude 5420 to endure a full workday of constant use on the go. Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. Apple Silicon still has it beat, though. The MacBook Pro we recently tested handled 14 hours of our battery life, a full four and a half hours more than the Latitude 5420. The speakers sound powerful The Latitude 5420 we tested had Intel’s Core i7-10610U quad-core processor. It’s an upgrade from the Core i3 processor found in the base configuration, but it certainly didn’t feel like it.
However, this doesn’t stop the Latitude 14 5420 to provide some computational performance to its users. Interestingly, the laptop is offered with both Comet Lake-U and Tiger Lake processors. Why? We don’t know. What we do know is that the 10nm architecture of Intel introduced a huge boost in performance. Not only when it comes to CPU-intensive loads, but to graphics power as well. So, getting the so-called “11-th Gen” processors would be a priority. The Dell Latitude 5420 comes standard with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro. If you don’t need all of the Pro features, you can switch to Windows 11 Home. This laptop also supports Linux if you prefer an alternative operating system. Coupling that with the fact that it relies on basic integrated graphics makes it clear that this is not a good laptop for gaming. In brief, stay away from the Dell Latitude 5420. On the same note, this also makes it an ideal laptop for college students and creatives. Don’t buy it if… A 63 watt-hour battery powers the Dell Latitude 5420. That’s not massive, but it feels above average in 2021. Most premium and luxury laptops have cut battery size in an effort to reduce weight. Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. We’ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointer’s gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day. It’s honestly the worst touchpad we’ve used in years. We became so frustrated that, at one point during testing, our reviewer rage-quit the laptop entirely and walked off to finish the day’s work on a desktop.
