Sofia the First was praised for its music, animation, characters, and messages. It received some of the highest viewership for a preschool cable television series; at one point, it became the category's most-watched program, with a variety of merchandise being influenced by the series, such as theme park rides and books. Sofia the First was nominated for 11 Daytime Emmy Awards, including two wins, and received the 2014 Annie Award for Best General Audience Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Preschool Children. However, the series received criticism for identifying its titular character as Latina; the controversy ultimately led to the creation of the spin-off Elena of Avalor. You start the game in Sofia's bedroom, watching her read a fascinating book with a hidden message within. Apparently, there are some secret passageways underneath the castle that lead to a Secret Library! But how are we ever going to find the entrance? Thankfully, the wise rabbit Clover knows his way around the castle and can lead you to its location. However, there are plenty of obstacles in the way! Many sporting events are in Enchancia, such as croquet, bowling, badminton, horseshoes, soccer, volleyball, Flying Derby, which was founded in Enchancia, foxhunts, musical chairs, and capture the crown. Other sports played likely include tennis, a traditionally royal game. Village and Royal kids can compete against one another in competitions, such as Go-Coach racing and Dazzleball. This is the fifth TV Special movie in the Sofia the First series, following Once Upon a Princess, The Floating Palace, The Curse of Princess Ivy, and Elena and the Secret of Avalor.

Guards help patrol the castle, to protect the royal family. They wear armor that bears the Enchancian crest. Griffins also guard the castle jewel room against theft. This is the sixth and final installment of the Secret Library story arc, preceded by " The Secret Library", " Olaf and the Tale of Miss Nettle", " The Tale of the Noble Knight", Elena and the Secret of Avalor, and " Tale of the Eternal Torch". When Sofia arrives at the Enchancia Castle and gets out of the carriage, she is dressed as a commoner, but shortly after she wears her new signature outfit as a princess. At the ball, Sofia arrives in her gown with extra lace ornaments and everyone is amazed by how beautiful she looks. She casts the spell Cedric gave her and, to her horror, everyone falls asleep, even Cedric. Thinking she must have said the spell wrong and that she's all alone, Sofia breaks down and cries. When a tear drops on the amulet, it begins to glow and Cinderella appears. She explains to Sofia that whenever she is in trouble, her amulet will summon a Princess like herself to help. Cinderella reveals that Amber is still awake and can help out, but Sofia tells Cinderella that she is still angry at Amber for all the terrible things she's done to her. However, through a song, Cinderella encourages Sofia to give her another chance, as Sofia may leave the castle someday. Sofia decides to take Cinderella's advice, although Cinderella vanishes before Sofia can thank her. Sofia goes to Amber and takes her to the ballroom. At the banquet hall, where Sofia has trouble figuring out which fork to use, there were six forks, spoons, and knives to choose from. As the protagonist, Sofia is a major character throughout the series. As a neophyte Royal, she struggles to find her place among the world of Royalty and prove herself worthy of her new status. She also must learn the responsibilities that come with being the bearer of the Amulet of Avalor and its powers. She also finds herself caught between things she wants to do as a free spirit and what she must do as a Princess.

Both Sofia and Vanellope were given some advice by the princesses who would apply in their personal situations. Woodland animals have helped princesses for ages, but only in hopes of getting fed in return. They constructed secret passageways through the castle to reach different rooms and exit the castle onto the grounds. After Sofia feeds the animals that help her, they help her more. Sofia's animals used to work for Amber, but Sofia's arrival as a new princess got them reassigned to her due to their experience.
