About this deal

Yes, in fact I think this all comes down to a matter of semantics, and folks in the video world using 'base ISO' or 'native ISO' in a different sense than those in the stills imaging world.

The A7’s image quality is top-class within the limits of its 24-megapixel resolution. Colours are beautifully vibrant, while the scope to customise colour output in camera is very much appreciated. It’s also clear that Sony has thought about how photographers like to work: the breadth of customisation options is fantastic. Sony a7R II uncompressed Raw firmware update available October 19". DPReview . Retrieved 27 November 2020. The A7R III also feels more rounded than the models that go before it. Its autofocusing system is impressive so it’s even suitable for shooting sport. The very best focusing system, however, is in the A7R V which has 693 phase detection points and the very latest subject detection options which include Human (Right/Left Eye Select) / Animal (Right/Left Eye Select) / Bird / Insect / Car / Train / Airplane, all of which work in stills and video mode. Sony claims the A7S II's AF system can acquire focus at an ever lower –4EV – one full stop beyond that of its two siblings – and when you consider the intended user and applications, this makes a lot of sense. Our testing (and DxO's) lead us to the conclusion that ISO 100 is the base ISO, in the sense that it appears to utilize the minimal level of amplification and offer the maximum DR.

If you’re keen to get more resolution then the A7R V is the best choice and its AF system is incredible. If video is your primary concern then go for the Sony A7S III. Well, look no further, because we’re about to run through the Alpha 7 models in turn, going through the strengths and weaknesses of each one.
