About this deal

Languages. Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of languages to choose from. The DM is free to modify that list for a campaign. A yuan-ti abomination fighting to protect a place of importance will do so fanatically. If it’s seriously injured in that scenario, it won’t retreat but rather will fight to the death. If it’s accompanied by yuan-ti malisons and purebloods, and if they’re in a settlement or other location where reinforcements may be available, one or more of the yuan-ti abomination’s allies will break off when the abomination is moderately injured and run to fetch more. Raw meat has a very short shelf-life, and will go bad within a day if it is not refridgerated or cured. Pre-Ascension: Ssilkashla is the only Yuan-Ti Abomination currently residing in the temple. She lives in room 15B but is rarely found outside of her ritual chambers (room 20).

If Athrendel joins the party, remember to divide the XP awarded to the player characters accordingly. This room contains a wooden table, basins of water, and shelves containing medical supplies. This room serves multiple functions, including serving as an emergency hospital, concocting hallucinogenics, and preparing bodies to be placed in the catacombs. This chamber is filled by a 3-foot deep bath of steaming water. Yaotal the Pit Master and the Yuan-Ti abominations use this bath to relax and clean themselves. At level one you only have this ability for ten minutes but from level two and beyond your polymorph time can get higher (10 * proficiency bonus).James Wyatt (October 2001). Oriental Adventures (3rd edition). ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 58. ISBN 0-7869-2015-7. If you do use an Abomination in tier I, take the time to build up their reputation. Name-drop them in a few previous sessions to build up the hype and tension and make the players a little afraid of this primary antagonist.

Purebloods, being the most human-like, were the caste involved in negotiations with outside races. [6] Religion [ ] The yuan-ti came in several distinct castes or breeds. The three most prevalent were as follows: [6] [7] Purebloods Purebloods appeared mostly human, with minor reptilian features, [6] [7] such as slit eyes, [6] a forked tongue, [6] [7] or patches of scales on their skin. [7] Halfbloods Also called malisons, [12] halfbloods were humanoid in shape but had a wide variety of noticeable serpentine features, such as a snakelike tail in place of legs, [6] [7] a complete covering of scales, [6] [7] a hood like a cobra, [13] a snake's head, [6] [7] or snakes in place of arms. [6] [7] Known subgroups of halfbloods included mind whisperers, pit masters, and nightmare speakers. Abominations Abominations were almost completely snakelike, with only a few human features, such as arms or a humanoid head. [6] [7] Minor Subraces Shapechanger, for the yuan-ti pureblood, comes with the same disadvantages as it has for the yuan-ti malison and yuan-ti abomination. Skip it. If combat breaks out, the Yuan-Ti attempt to raise the alarm, calling their allies from area 9 to join the fight. Darkness is a concentration spell that’s highly advantageous to the anathema, which has blindsight, but not so much to its allies, which don’t (except for the three yuan-ti malison variants in Volo’s—see below—whose superior darkvision can penetrate magical darkness). Cast when the anathema is encountered alone or its allies have already been taken out.

The center of this room is filled by a 3-foot deep pool of warm steamy water. Yuan-Ti entering the temple use this water to ritualistically clean their body and buff their scales. Yaotal the Yuan-Ti Pit Master (VGtM) can be found here if he has not been encountered elsewhere. He is never separated from his companion Swarm of Poisonous Snakes save for his time in the private bath (room 11). Yuan-ti call themselves vrael olo (which means "favored ones"). Daily use typically uses the shortened "vrael", and can be modified to "auvrael" (meaning friendly or known yuan-ti) and "duthrael" (unfriendly or unfamiliar yuan-ti). [18]
