About this deal

One of our earliest debates with the list was whether to play 3 or 4 Yveltal. We ended up on 4 as, especially after Lugia’s dominance at LAIC, we wanted to make spamming Yveltal as easy as possible, and as little prone to prizing variance as possible. This was further justified by Yveltal’s importance in the Mew matchup. The downside to 4 Yveltal is that you lower your odds of starting Snorlax. Furthermore, unlike Sander’s list, once you discard enough Powerful Colorless Energies against Lugia, you can wall with a Mewtwo, so the 4th Cry of Destruction becomes a lot less important.

The other characteristics of a Pokémon V-UNION do not exist when it isn’t in play. For example, even if a Pokémon V-UNION has a Retreat Cost of 3 or more when it’s fully assembled, you still can’t search for any of the parts with Heavy Ball. And even though some parts have an HP listed, you still can’t search for them with Level Ball. The same goes for Abilities, Weakness, and so on. Lost Vacuum is our answer to Big Parasols. The other options people have played in Mewtwo are Tool Jammer and Tool Scrapper, but with the permanency and versatility to get rid of stadiums, Vacuum feels superior to the others. Mine was our stadium of choice, and it was underwhelming to say the least. I don’t think Mine actively won me any games, it just occasionally made things a bit more awkward for my opponent. While Mine wasn’t great, I think it was the best stadium for this event, as PokeStop has a bit too much variance, sometimes discarding very important resources, Rose Tower isn’t that great overall, and we thought Path to the Peak would have been more harmful than helpful.Originally we were not playing a Radiant at all, but then we realized that a solid play from Lugia was to loop Lumineons. To combat this, we played Cape of Toughness. This part is a bit embarrassing, but I thought Gardevoir only reduced damage done to Vs by Vs, so I didn’t think it worked originally, but then we saw Sander playing it, and immediately cut one of the Capes for it, which solved any Lumineon looping issues we had. Once per game during your turn, combine 4 different Mewtwo V-UNION from your discard pile and put them onto your Bench. The Ninja Body ability prevents any item card your opponent plays from their hand affecting Greninja V Union. Antidote Jutsu protects Greninja from being poisoned, and Feel the Way forces your opponent to reveal their hand during your turn. This is a V Union card that’ll fit into a range of strategies. Serena was the last card we added to the list. We cut the last Cape for it, as Cape felt awful, and Serena gave a second gust option. Serena was one of our potential adds at the time, as well as a solid consistency option, and a great way to discard V-UNION pieces/Psychics, when you want to conserve other important resources in your hand. There are a few other rules about Pokémon V Union cards you should be clued in on. Firstly, they’re considered V Union cards instead of Basic or Evolution Pokémon. This means the only way to bring them into play is by getting each individual card discarded.

The only way to get a V-UNION Pokemon out is to assemble all four cards in your discard pile, where they can then enter play as one combined piece. And it must be all four corners, four copies of the same part can't make a V-UNION. Then, energy disruption can also be quite severe. That’s why I try to bring Training Court as my means of recycling energy. I also bring 1 Raihan so I can do 2 energy attachments in a single turn. You may be in a bad spot if you run out of stadiums and/or prized most of your stadium cards.V-UNION Pokemon work differently from normal Pokemon cards. They're not considered Basic or Evolved Pokemon, and exist as their own thing, meaning there is no way to put them into play from your hand. That is, in addition to harming the opponent who uses massive draw tactics that use at least two Pokémon as a guarantee, such as Cinccino SSH 147 or Bibarel BRS 121, taking them out of play, and you still get to draw cards! Professor's Research (Professor Oak) CEL 23 is the best draw power available right now. It is useful to get rid of Pokémon that are "dead weight" in your hand such as Arceus V and Arceus VStar that will no longer be useful in the game and mainly having the possibility, in a utopian play, to be able to discard the 4 parts of Mewtwo at once just to speed up your in-game “summoning”. A V Union Pokémon is a single, giant Pokémon that’s made up of four normal-sized cards. These individual cards all share a name, Energy type, and card type (Pokémon), even if they don’t all explicitly say so.

What you want to do with these individual cards is find a way to add them to your graveyard. Once all four are there, you can resurrect them and return them to the field as a complete Pokémon V Union card. Now we’re cooking curry with fire. Our answer, no. There are a few reasons our testing group reached this conclusion, the first being that control is going to be such a small percentage of the meta; most people will hit one or none, and not be scared of it, thus not teching for it. On top of this, the techs Sander’s list was weak to, ours was not, since there are many points where Lugia, Mew or Lost Box cannot deal with a Mewtwo. Thus, even if lists played some techs, they would need something stronger like Espeon, or Cyllene and Pal Pad, and at that point, they are likely cutting consistency cards that are overall good, for techs for a niche matchup. So if we can dodge them in the earlier rounds, we wouldn’t hit them.The aforementioned Snorlax VIV 131, with its Gormandize ability, where you can draw cards until you have seven in your hand, and if you do, your turn ends;

Galarian Meowth RCL 126 is here for its Evolution Roar ability, where you discard two cards from your hand to look for another Galarian Meowth. The point of this ability is the possibility of discarding these two cards, precisely two parts of Mewtwo-VUnion. I play the standard 4-3 line of Arceus VSTAR because I think this is the safest number for playing the Arceus VSTAR variant. Having Arceus VSTAR really makes setting up V-UNION easier. Trinity Nova can easily charge your V-UNION while dealing damage. Then, its VSTAR Power can easily find Adventurer’s Discovery to search for V-UNION parts. This is by no means an easy feat to pull. But once you pull off the combo, you can practically be cruising with your V-UNION. Adventurer's Discovery FST 224 is precisely to speed up Arceus-V in your game. The card has the effect where you can search for 3 Pokémon-V and put them into your hand. Pokemon (24)1x Mewtwo V-UNION ( PRSSH #SWSH159 )1x Mewtwo V-UNION ( PRSSH #SWSH160 )1x Mewtwo V-UNION ( PRSSH #SWSH161 )1x Mewtwo V-UNION ( PRSSH #SWSH162 )4x Snorlax ( SWSH4 #131)1x Gardevoir ( SWSH6 #61)4x Kirlia ( SWSH12 #68)4x Ralts ( SWSH10 #60)1x Gengar ( SWSH1 #85)2x Gastly ( SWSH11 #64)1x Radiant Tsareena ( SWSH12 #16)1x Shadow Rider Calyrex V ( SWSH6 #74)1x Manaphy ( SWSH9 #41)1x Pyukumuku ( SWSH8 #77)However, the individual cards don’t possess the other features written on them, as these belong to the fully-assembled V Union Pokémon. What this means in practice is that, while you can search for the four individual cards and add them to your hand using a card like Poké Kid or Familiar Bell, they’re pretty useless to play on their own.
