About this deal

With two, you can easily discuss and share the app and clues. You each have a role, a job, a purpose. With three? You can put heads together whilst someone interrogates the innocent and scans every code available. It’ll be a good balance of thoughts and approaches, with enough hands and heads to work out the nitty-gritty of the many details of the cases. Four is the maximum I’d suggest for this game. It works well, but everyone needs to know the basics of the game to avoid clashes of ideas. More people will just break the game apart and it’ll become a convoluted mess or develop overly complicated ideas and not enough apps to go around. For us, two works perfectly and it’s a superb amount of fun. London, today. You just left the commissioner's office. You're not sure how you feel, but definitely not good. A body was found in Hyde Park, and the commissioner just made it your case. You leave the police station, get in your car, and close the door. You shake off your thoughts, start the engine, and drive away to the crime scene. Time to get to work. I love the app on my phone as a tool. The QR code scanning is such an innovative piece to the game, plus all the additional scenarios you can buy. The cases themselves aren’t always easy, especially if you miss some key elements meaning a vital location or character doesn’t arrive early in the game. This can lead to some stand still moments as you try to work out what you might have missed, who didn’t you ask about what? After the first proper case I started employing a pen and paper to make some notes as we went!

I love the setting of medieval Paris, I love the dog companion (Perceval!), and I especially love the inclusion of the Visions. Really like the Specialists component. Chronicles of crime gives you access to 4 resources to “call” by scanning them. This will allow you to ask for autopsy info, electronic forensics, physical evidence forensics and a criminal profiler. Chronicles of Crime: 1400 is a fun detective game with a range of different types of mysteries, interesting characters, and a cool setting. The use of the app enables more nuanced and specific investigations than is generally possible in storybook detective games. is a standalone entry in the series that adds in prophetic dreams that you as the main character has, leading you too clues and lines of enquiry. Replacing your high tech modern team of advisors is your well connect family and trusty hound. Your dog can find people through smell! It works wonderfully well and adds to this already excellent series. Using the same set of physical components (a board and cards representing locations, characters, and items), the Chronicles of Crime app lets you and your friends step into a world of mystery and play out your investigations.Final Score: 3.5 Stars – A good app integrated game with some intriguing stories that leans a bit too much on the app for my taste. Great online store for board games. They always arrive perfectly and undamaged which is important to me. INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY: Utlizie the free smartphone app to examine crime scenes, question suspects, and follow leads in virtual reality. Someone else can have a go too, but everything in this game costs time, and time is important with the chief cop demanding you get answers by certain deadlines. Interviews take place by scanning the QR code of characters, you can then ask them about other characters and items by scanning the relevant codes, and moving around the city is done in the same fashion. When you are ready the app will ask you a series of questions to ascertain whether you have solved the case with the correct reasoning or not, and then gives you a score based on this.

I also liked how the case deadline helped me focus my investigations and be economical about where to go and what to do there. Difference From Other Games In The Series The time mechanic is reinforced with the entire game being a living world. Characters move around, they might not open the door to see you at night and there’s pressure to solve a case in a certain amount of time. They also react to certain clues. If a character asks you to keep something a secret, and you scan that item with another character, you can get a negative reaction next time you speak to them. In the course of investigating a domestic murder case, Goo Do Han finds evidence implicating Noh Sang Cheon as a suspect. How could it be that this fraudster—thought to have died years ago—is linked to the case? It falls to Goo Do Han to try to determine if Noh Sang Cheon is actually dead or not. If he is dead, who could the real murderer be? If not, where was Noh Sang Cheon hiding all this time? As the detective continues to investigate, he begins to wonder if there might be a link between the fraud of eight years ago and the mysterious murder.Chronicles of Crime is a detective game that uses simple physical and digital components, combining them together brilliantly to give players one of the best investigative experiences to date. Buy your copy here. Chronicles of Crime is a great game and experience, one that is easy to play and rewards logical thinking. The game comes with plenty of cases and the promise of more through digital content. It is quite unlike most other games, the closest it resembles is the popular escape room games, but it is more than that. For those budding armchair detectives in your life this is a fantastic choice.

The latter two aspects are a subtle difference from the mechanics in other games in the series, but they have a huge impact on how one as a player interacts with the game. Amazingly, Chronicles of Crime weaves it’s narratives with relatively few components. The are ‘evidence cards’ which you will discover as you go along. These are split into a smaller pile of unique or special clues, and then some general evidence cards, 55 character cards, four police advisers and a sent of envelope sized location mats. The constant link between your journalism and active crime scenes is your uncle. He’s a detective and always seems to be knee-deep in shady criminals and other people’s bodily fluids. Anytime you see him, he’ll always be accompanied by some poor cadaver. What’s more, is that he always seems ignorant to what you see as a journalist – much of which is common sense! One small word of warning, while you can buy the physical elements of the expansions now, the digital part won’t be line until 2019. Meaning you can’t actually use them until that goes live. None of this information is written on the cards themselves, but contained within the app. Players activate it by scanning a QR code on the relevant card. This works brilliantly. It allows the game to reuse the same character cards in different scenarios as all the relevant information to the current crime mystery is stored in the app. This expands the replayability of the game, relying on the addition of new digital content rather than players buying physical components. It is, of course, inevitable that expansions will add more cards or locations to the game. However, as there is plenty of physical content already, some new extra expansions could focus on digital content only, making it cheaper and more convenient to buy. Some cases have built-in timed events that will trigger at certain points in the investigation to introduce some new aspect and put everything you already know in a new context. I really liked that, especially how talking to characters about another character or a piece of evidence would change wildly before and after such an event.
