I once heard a pastor say, though I forget who he was quoting, that if he were stuck on an island that if he could only have two books it would be his Bible and the Valley of Vision. The following analysis of the prophecy is partly influenced by this reading of the historical setting, and it is right to say that at one or two points the view adopted is somewhat tentative. The pronouncement concerning the valley of vision: What is the matter with you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops?

Iain Murray of The Banner of Truth Trust, known for his biographies of Charles Spurgeon, Martyn-Lloyd Jones, and Jonathan Edwards, encouraged Arthur Bennett to compile and publish The Valley of Vision.

That thou art wholly gone up to the house-tops - That all classes of the people had fled to the house-tops, so much that it might be said that all the city had gone up.

The pastor of our church (Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA) gifted a copy of “The Valley of Vision” to us on the occasion of our marriage, the second for each of us 64-year-old folk.When there was a tower in the city, the inhabitants fled to that, and took refuge on its top (see Judges 9:50-53).
