About this deal

There is no reference to butt discs in the 1916 changes that i have seen, please post this reference, as for the rest of your post i agree Personally I would never add a disc to a rifle nor would I rely upon a disc to reveal the "history" of a rifle unless there is additional corroborating evidence a point I often make when answering disc ID questions on here.

Originally raw linseed oil was used but most people used boiled linseed oil (BLO) these days as it is easier to get/handle We know it is not part of the official III* changes where the only required change was the cutoff so not in the 1916 LoC, However as I was not sure where/why I thought that this omission of the disc was part of this so I have been looking a bit. I have not found an official reference as yet, however based on observed examples I found this: However, I accept your point that the vast majority of WWI ShtLEs will have had a disc fitted (although I will stop short of all!) A light wipe over with linseed, let it soak in for a few minutes then wipe off any excess (otherwise it hardens to a shiny varnish like finish which you don't want)I also think that the practice of unit marking rifles / bayonets was re instituted in the 20s and 30s (the number of RAF marked bayonets would seem to me to be the strongest evidence for this) If you want to return items that were bought more than 30 days ago, we may still accept the item but there may be an administrative charge and exclusions do apply, e.g. if the bullion has been cut to some requirements. However, please call our customer service team on 0345 100 1122 or [email protected] Take care to follow all instructions with BLO soaked rags. As linseed oil dries the reaction is exothermic and rags can spontaneously combust so they should be spread out and air dried. These discs do not have holes and are flat, de-burred metal discs. The base edge is not buffed and may need finishing, depending on your needs/preferences. The surfaces are smooth and burnished, but unpolished. It is veryeasy to get a shine on them if needed:simply rub with a small quantity of metal polish using a soft cloth.
